we finished 6th last season not midtable, I'm told this is punching at our weight by many people.

Perhaps but unfortunately oil money does exist, so the reality is we have only qualified for the CL one time. A bigger stadium will help us to compete financially but imo it isn't a necessity to compete with other clubs. Southampton are competing thus far this season because they have a good set up that's why we've tried to copy them.
The oil money no longer exists in its former glory. A mixture of falling prices and FFP has had an effect on that. Not to say some makes its way into the game, but certainly the amount has drastically reduced. In any case we all know the premiere league bubble will burst it's a matter of when not if. Solid foundations are the future and that's what we are buying into (in my mind). State of the art training ground, stadium, if we can sort out transport links this will complete the circle..
Southampton are slightly different in their approach to us, we spend a hefty dollar bringing in our youth at the moment, Southampton really do pick many players up at the grass roots level. I would consider our approach to youth more similar to that of MU's.

They will appeal on the last day. And that appeal will be rejected. 11 weeks to go. Max.
Yeah I think I agree. The judge took no time in awarding Spurs the CPO. I would be massively surprised if any appeal was granted, I suspect so would Archway.

I was about to agree with your post then I read it properly. When we got Modric for 16 million I was very pleased with that fee because imo he was worth more than that at the time. Berbatov, I can't remember how much he was, 8 million? He was a complete unknown quantity to me at the time .
If I'm honest I didn't know Modric either.

They were exciting names if you played Championship Manager at the time.

Sort of like the Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial of the time, if I remember rightly.
If I'm honest I didn't know much about Lamela. I'd watched Eriksen and thought he was special.

I'm sure every time a new TV deal is announced UEFA is waiting and praying for it to be reduced in value. There's countless models and plans out there suggesting what the future of football will be - even in 10 years time. As you've rightly said though, we need to be in a position to exploit the various scenarios and a large modern stadium and facilities will go a long way towards this. Otherwise a club the size of Spurs (currently) will be left way behind - potentially with no means of catching up, as the self preservation thing for others will prevent this.

It is inevitable that at some stage the Champions League or a version of it will actually take over. There's been major talks at the various very high levels as we all know. The clubs from outside of our EPL are looking with jealously and fear at the amount of money and exposure coming into the PL and realise that they would also like a slice of this type of revenue - will they all go it alone without the EPL or will they still try and persuade us to come along? We're super strong as a product at the moment though.

There will either be a European Super League with divisions or even a Worldwide one. The only thing stopping this will be fear and the confidence of such clubs to maintain their positions within the pecking order.

All the best young players will inevitably be be drawn towards these clubs. We've got to have that stadium.

As I've mentioned before I think, I only knew about Lamela because I had a game of FM13 and had managed spurs for a few seasons, won the league and generated quite a bit of £££ that I didn't need in transfer fees. I left for England and then Inter (got bored of success) and AVB had relinquished the job and spent all the money. It was on that game that he had bought Lamela, who I didn't know and who didn't look that special. AVB bought him IRL not long after.

Eriksen was well known for all that time he was linked to £20m+ moves to Liverpool & others.

This discussion doesn't belong on this thread (easy to forget as discussions develop, I know, but this thread is about the Archway dispute!).

Nevertheless, I had to pick up on the above quote - because it is simply not true.

We haven't bought the vast majority of our academy players. We have scouted them and trained and nurtured them from a young age. And, by the way, our academy is also currently more successful than Southampton's. The only thing we have lacked, before this season, was a manager brave enough to give the young players their chance.

I don't know whether you follow the specific youth thread on here but I can highly recommend it.

Should I delete it?

Still all quiet from Archway.....

What do you expect them to say? They've got another 2 weeks to set it all in motion. They don't need to make any public statement and especially not to Tottenham fans. Leave everybody guessing.

There was that ITK the other day which said that the club is quietly confident that there won't be a further appeal. Didn't they have 10 days to lodge an appeal? I presume that would have been 10 working days. Either way I would assume that the period has elapsed. I guess that in this case, no news is good news as I can't see Archway actually issuing a statement confirming that they won't be appealing further.

They have 21 days which don't seem to have started until last week. It's in the stadium thread. (y)

If I'm honest I didn't know Modric either.
Modric was very well known. He'd been amazing in a tournament I think and all the big boys were looking at him.
Berba was less well known outside of Germany, I think we paid 12 million for him.
both were stunning bits of business imo especially Modric. We made 40 million from those 2 and the pleasure of watching 2 worldies playing for the mighty spurs!
