We miss Vertonghen at the back, we need a left footed CB as the LCB, and Toby should play there instead of Davinson
Dembele is also missed, he can control the midfield, and dribble out of trouble and start attacks. Can’t believe people would be okay if we sold him in January
Eriksen is our only attacking midfielder, our most important player. Every season I say the same thing, buy a Eriksen back up but we never do that
And Dele Alli is so underrated

totally agree that if the first two games of CL this season has demonstrably shown us just what we are lacking in midfield, I don't know what will.

I know we don't usually make moves in January (moura notwithstanding), but this midfield situation is a crisis, and could be the difference between us finishing seventh or fourth this year in the league. We are in desperate need of two midfielders that can pick a pass, defend well, score a goal, has a bit of quickness about that, and doesn't look shattered after 30 minutes.

Unfortunately Barca didn’t get the memo about not putting in 100% like Madrid did last year. Oh well.

Lets get the caveats out the way, we're playing one of the very best teams in the world (of the last generation). It was always going to be a very tough test, we were the underdogs.

However what we have done in that first half has made things pretty easy for them. A few times we've nicked the ball off them in semi-dangerous areas, but on the whole it's all been a bit headless chicken, a bit desperate and with little reward. Just charge after them and hope for the best. That approach took a hammer blow in the opening minute, and after the second goal we're now all over the place, disjointed, some are still trying to press (Lamela, Moura) whilst some aren't (Kane, Son), the cm2 are now over-run and looked to be feeling the pace of covering so much ground, and Barca are playing around us with ease.

I have no clue how we get back into the game, but if we don't regain some discipline and work as a unit then we could get walloped (we might do anyway, but don't make it easy for them).

There's no Eriksen or Alli in the side and we've still got some willing runners in behind. I think we need to go a bit more direct and use Kane more.

We will not be buying anyone in January.

They are not invincible. We need to do them on the counter and not fuck up in defense (means you Hugo and davinson)

Come on... that's not totally fair. We played really well in that game. I agree that Real weren't at their high-flying best, but we were really really really up for it and the result reflected our performance that day.

The truth is we are never going to look particularly special against these top sides, as we found out against Liverpool.

Our midfield is just not even close to the standard. We just get bullied.
