I don't know what to say. We deserved to win that game.

I am not sure I agree with you Flatters. Our defending was far too poor to really deserve to win and once again Keane apart our finishing was woeful and even then Keane missed a really good chance early on.

1. Both penalties were a little harsh
2. No way should Keane have been sent off
3. Berbs at fault for their winner, but great strike from Larrson.
4. Kaboul is surely living on borrowed time unless he pulls his socks up quick smart.

January can't come soon enough. We need a defence and quickly.

What else could we have done? We absolutely hammered them for most of the game. Yet again we just had absolutely no luck. At all.

just as i was finally getting excited about the season again, i feel as low as i do after the defeat to Newcastle.

The Ref was awful, and he changed that game with his decisions for there penalty and the sending off of keane.

We played really well at times and created so much, but yet again we have let in a stack of goals. This shouldnt be happening at home.

oh, dear god.

good:

huddlestone. another brilliant assist.
keane. played very well today, scored two. never a red card.
steed. was good in a free role. i don't like him out on the left, but i think we should play him and huddlestone together in midfield.
bale. like always, pushing forward whenever possible, no mistakes in defence, dangerous free-kicks. you could see how important his runs up the left are when lee came on. lee always cuts inside and passes back or sideways.
lennon. dangerous, lively. good game from him.

bad:
defoe. was completely useless. couldn't make simple passes and when we're attacking fast that's something you can't accept. i haven't seen anything from him lately that suggests that he deserves a place in the team.
kaboul: schoolboy errors. can manage long passes straight to berbs or bent but when making two-meters passes into midfield or to the full-backs he passes right to a b'ham player. awful today. may lack experience but then again bale who is younger isn't giving away penalties.
dawson. it's enough that kaboul is making silly errors but dawson is no better theseadays. that tackle in the second goal? won no headers today. he's a good player, but he desperately needs to find his form again.

chimmy and bent did ok.

birmingham is a shitty team. we were playing good attacking football, created a lot of chances. scoring two at home should be enough, against a team like birmingham. when we finally stop conceding three goals at home we will be a brilliant team. and i have every faith in ramos to sort it out....but it's gonna take much longer than i thought.

I would take a straight swap for Kanoute for Berbertov right now.

Nah Nidge. It's just that we don't have a first choice specialist back four to start a game this season.

Look at the centre backs - average age 22 and lack of experience shows. Bale is more forward than back, going on instruction - we were playing three at the back for much of the game.

How fucked off am I with our star forward Berby? He missed great opportunties and looked average for most of the game.

Oh I agree PT but, our problem in defense come down to who we have purchased recently. It is way too early for Kaboul to be playing regular Prem football. Bale isn't for me a prem class full back yet.

And don't get me started on Berbatov as I think my head may explode. :bang:

It's down to defence. We have to overcome a 0-1 most games and it definitely knocks how we set out to play. The sooner we can get King or Gardener or Rocha fit to play, the better.

Anyone else see the huge grin on Rennie's face after Larsson's goal?...

Dowd showed his uselessness by giving a throw after Muamba's tackle that injured Bale - he got the ball and made contact with the player, same as Keane... Keane gets red, Muamba gets a throw...

We need Ledley back or a centre back in January, which ever comes first, and if Levy tries to stop Ramos buying someone because they don't have 'sell-on value' I'm going to punch him in the face...

I am sorry flatters but, when luck was used as an excuse for the previous regime it wasn't accepted as a viable excuse so it can't be used for the new regime.

Angst filled ref decisions...

I don't want this locked, but that red card was a farce.

Juve was investigated and Serie A was found guilty of widespread match fixing. Match fixing is not unheard of in the Premiership (remember Bruce Grobbelar?). Organized crime casts a wide net, particularly from Asia and Eastern Europe...

Is it possible that that referee's crew had undue pressure to give the Brummie's a hand?... Bittertness from today's loss is driving my post here, but can we discuss if this is possible without locking this thread?

That call was that bad. :violin:

Agree with most of the comments, the ref was a disgrace. And it seemed as if he spoke to his 4th official on the radio about the Keane incident, and who was the 4th official? Uriah Rennie. Who has to be one of the worst officials there is in the game.

Honestly I'm at my wits end with the way we're constantly getting shafted by a) dodgy refereeing decisions b) injuries to key defenders (hopefully Bale will be ok) and c) unsaveable screamers flying into the top corner from 30+ yards.

That said we shoulda put the game outta sight, Berbatov scores and its a completely different game. We go on to win comfortably.

Football is such a cruel game sometimes, as my brother (Utd fan) said in the pub it was like watching someone get mugged.

This will do nothing to help confidence, and we've got some tough games ahead.

Robbie's red card must be rescinded cause there was no way in hell that was a sending off offence.
