This must be why he has a markedly higher successful pass percentage than Defoe and has put 3 out of 6 on-target shots away, as opposed to Defoe's 1 from 7 (including a penalty). He's also been winning plenty of headers.

.

i dont know if you watched the game but the lad has problems. if berba goes at the end of the season then we havnt got the man to replace him. maybe, hopefully, its just a dip in form but i have seen nothing to impress me and would take a selfish defoe who can score any day of the week over a lame duck like bent. he doesnt look like he could cut it playing sunday league football at the moment

Unfortunately, a selfish Defoe hasn't been able to score every day of the week for almost three years. Or even every other day.

just seen the horro tackle on lee, was lucky Lee half jumped when he came in or else that could easly have been a leg breaker!

hope Defoe gets a crack next game, looked livley when he came on

And Sven had the cheek to compare it to keane's tackle in the post match interview!

Right, there's been far too many people eager to criticise Bent. It's almost like they've been sucked in by their gooner mates. The problem is they're judging a player who, for the most part, hasn't settled in yet and has made only sporadic appearances and comparing him with a player who they've seen start many times for a club they've been at for years.

We need to be patient with Bent, I personally think he needs more games to find his feet. The main problem ATM I think, is that he's trying to prove himself, he's trying too hard, and as a result he's making more mistakes than he normally would.

If I were Ramos, I'd be starting Bent in our cup games and Keane in our league games, away at pompey next week too.

i thought we played better in the second half berbatov was class act everthing just goes through him setting up the play and holding the ball up
bent should have scored in the first half and i thought Kaboul played which will do him good and it was nice to see him through his shirt into the crowd and hit his chest as if to say that he loves the club and wants to do well showed a lot of passion

The main problem is that Bent is best when playing in a counter-attaacking team. Most of his goals for Charlton came from counter attacking balls over the opposition back four for Bent to run onto. Unfortunatly, we are a possession-led team in general and like to control the game. When opposing teams sit deep against us it renders Bent's play useless. He is a good player, but he's not a good Spurs player.

next game away to pompey might suit Bent more than Defoe - but I guess it has to be Jd's turn on Sat - still we'll see

It's good we have cover for Robbie -

Yes i think people are being a little harsh on bent, he hasnt been as bad as people make out.

His premiership minutes per goal is currently at 186

To compare:
defoe - 277
berbatov - 592
keane - 147

Ok so he had a bad game on sunday, but in his defence he did the right thing for his first miss. Sliding it to the side of the keeper was the best option, but the keeper did well and got down to it. His failure to pass to jenas though is more inexcusable.

And doesn't cost half as much as what Spurs paid for him.

he should have taken it around the keeper who had already commited himself to rushing out.

www.premierleague.com

you have work out the minutes per goal by yourself though!

Oh and re bents finish above, you may be right, but there were defenders tracking back who might have gotten across to block his finish had he gone round the goalie.

All I'm saying is that some people should give the guy a break

cheers gregga :) - by the way it wasn't me saying Bent should have gone round the keeper

I don't know what the best thing for Bent to have done there - he made his choice - it didn't work

I wanted Bent to start v City - but I can see the sense of giving JD a go next time round - but I'm backing all our strikers (and indeed all the team) - Bent had poor/not good game on Sat - but no way would I be giving him grief - I want him to succeed and back him 100%

Personally I thought we were shite on Sunday. Fortunately, winning shite is an important skill we have been sorely lacking recently. Had a bit of luck as well, which we've been rather short of for a while.

I give you Defoe v. Schwarzer 17/12/2005 as a classic example of how a top striker puts away a one-on-one with a keeper. (Or rather, doesn't.) And would Berbatov, Defoe or Keane have squared the ball in that situation? Past experience suggests not. In fact, I can clearly recall Berbs, on a hat-trick, putting a very similar chance just wide last season when Defoe was better-placed.

I think luck plays a massive part in football, too much for my liking. In the 2005/2006 season we may have finished 2 pts off the champions league but I think we weren't much better than we have looked this season (though obviously we were more organised defensively). The difference was we came off most games with a sneaky one goal victory after playing mostly lacklustre football.

Hopefully King's return will provide the lucky charm we have been looking for.
