The formation annoyed me more than anything, if we're gonna go 5 at the back then we should play 5-4-1, the 5-3-2 never works for us especially with the players we had out last night.

Poch said he understood he’d made a mistake, but he’s made that same mistake numerous times this season.

It tells me the coaching team were either under prepared for what was facing them so got it wrong or just didn’t know what to do.

To give them credit they did swap it up inside the first 20 minutes with JV going to left back and rose into midfield but that wasn’t enough.

Son and sissoko have to be first names on the team sheet, sissoko bullied their midfield.

If we start like we played the second half just hope son can get a couple of quick goals like at city.

I don’t understand how the media are portraying Ajax as some minnows from a footballing backwater before and after the game. It’s like they’ve conveniently forgotten the club’s history or why they are currently as successful as they have been. There’s been a lot of praise for them but also a lot of patronising.
Lazy journalism, nothing new there.

On the match I still think looking back at the first half we afforded them far too much respect. From the moment Sissoko came on and was prepared to put body on body it changed things, that and moving to a far simpler four at the back.

Still don't understand how super Jan went back on the pitch, he looked completely out of it when on the deck.

When he came off it looked like a delayed sucker punch had kicked in.

Can't fault his commitment!

I thought the player's received plenty of encouragement last night the crowd was excellent I thought before and at times during the game so can't ask for much more I don't think.

Agreed. I meant specifically on this forum we don't have to be so critical. CL football next year and a place in the final is still within our grasp so all still to play for albeit with a depleted, fatigued squad. Let's get behind them any way we can!!

The commentator mentioned that he returned back to the dug out to watch the remainder of the game. So it might not have been that bad. Maybe just a broken nose .
Yeah the reports seem to suggest he's fine in which case I'm wrong but it did not look good at all and looked like a classic case of concussion .

How many here think that if it hadn't been for poor Jan's injury and the need for his substitution we'd now be staring down the barrel of a 0-3 or 0-4 scoreline ?. Me for one.....

That’s a possibility but I think that Sissoko was already warming up prior to Jan’s injury. So he might still have got on but by replacing someone else - possibly Wanyama or even Trippier and reverting to a back four.

I know it’s only half time but I can’t help but help utterly deflated after last night. To play like we did in the biggest game of a generation just feels a bit sad really.

The next Ajax game is the biggest game of a generation now. And if we prevail in that...

The damage was already done, especially that we were without Son and Kane. Without both of them, we simply couldn't score. Poch knew that.

I was hoping for a 0-0 draw. I knew we couldn't score.

Not sure what game you were watching, I've seen more mobile trees
I thought his hold up play was very good - won a lot of stuff in the air and controlled the ball to find one of our players many times. It's not a comment on whether or not he's transformed into the next Mbappé. I'd rather have anal herpes than have him in the squad next year. Just thought all things considered he had a good game.

He was on autopilot. I've been there. He just needed a moment to himself to start thinking and acknowledge if he could continue or not. As soon as he accepted the situation he collapsed. Not nice. Think he would have puked afterwards...

Yeah I gotta agree, he played ok and was knocking it down and holding it up. The issue was the crossing, Rose and Trippier were constantly over/under hitting it and checking their crosses which meant no pace on the ball and it comes in behind him. No one fizzed one in last night and that's Llorentes bread and butter.

Just watched the second half again. And we actually did boss that. I have got over the disappointment of last night. We are only
Half way through This. Game is still on!

Need to sort our wing play out. Our crossing stank the place out.

Hoddle & co. on BT Sport saying we were awful after the match. I didn't think so. Ajax sat off us and we found some rhythm. They actually defended very well and like their lives depended on it. If you actually watch the Ajax players' tracking and tackling back, it's amongst the best I've seen this season.
