So far, and some things can and will change, this is what pots 1 and 2 look like for the first knockout round.

Pot 1
Man United, Ajax, Shakhtar, Club Brugge, Roma, Arsenal, Slavia Prague, Rangers, Granada, Napoli, Leicester, Lille, Villarreal, Antwerp, Zagreb, Hoffenheim

Pot 2
RB Salzburg, Krasnodar, Olympiacos, Dynamo Kyiv, Young Boys, Molde, Leverkusen, Benfica, PSV, Real Sociedad, Braga, Milan, Maccabi Tel-Aviv, Tottenham, Wolfsberger, Red Star

Likely changes in the EL are Leverkusen and Slavia Prague swapping places (they meet in Germany), Benfica and Rangers swapping places, Alkmaar mixing it up with Napoli and Sociedad who face each other, and a few rather more boring ones.

But those two lists tell me that we really should go out to win and top the group, and we should select a team strong enough to comfortably do so.

Leipzig are through, it's Manchester United who drop into the EL.

On the match, it's an easy message for Mourinho to get across to the players, be interesting to see how he sets us up and how those players given the chance to play, approach it.

In honour of our midfield general who I'd probably have a mancrush on (similar to the one I had for Jan) if he wasn't quite so scary, this match's thanks brought to you in Danish:

Mange tak for kampdiskussionen @Bulletspur

I feel like singing:

"Oh, wheeeeen the Spuuuuuuuurs...."

Job is already done, no guarantees of the strength of opposition regardless of topping the group.

We have three huge games in a week after this, then the quarter final in League cup with the congested festive fixtures to follow.

This game should be rank bottom of our priorities and I'd be amazed if his line up suggested anything to the contrary.

So I wouldn't expect a strong core at all. None of the players who started on Sunday should be playing...maybe Lo Celso, that's it.
Jose will want to win this because thats were he wants us to be. Job done as far as to qualifying and no real pressure as such but he will want to win this regardless. We will struggle with the team as last Thur so changes will need to be made. Don't we have a whole week off between Palace and Liverpool?

Sorry- just realised we don't have a week just a few days. Im sticking with my gut feeling that Jose will play a few of the regulars to get the result otherwise we will struggle, They are a decent side and should be respected .

Got a feeling we will go strong on this and try and win it early doors. Kane and Bale starting.

Seeing that there is a team from west coast Norway in Pot 2, my eyebrows are a little bit raised, but I'm not really that fuzzed. I think one of the beautiful parts of EL is that you can have those prestigious encounters in the knock out stage. And looking at Pot 1, there are plenty of teams I'd love. Mourinho & Bale vs. present Real? LOVE IT! Or Sacramento vs. Lille? And on the other side of the spectrum, Rangers, Granada or Brugge could mean some very nice away trips if away fans are allowed back in the stadium. And also, the matches aren't until late February anyway. I really don't get this need to seek the easiest route possible. Bring on the big clashes, I say!

I hope he puts out our 2nd eleven. If we lose - it doesn't matter - the 3 league games are the priority.
And from what Jose said, we are there - it would be nice to win but its not a priority (paraphrase).
We can worry about the Europa league in the next game - we can beat whoever we get drawn against.

The knockout rounds are 2 legged still aren’t they? With the seeded team playing home for the return leg?

imo that’ll make a different too so we should def be going into it with a strong enough team to win (ie 4 or 5 players from League starting 11)

Real went through as well. Inter got knocked out.

Mourinho will want to make sure we win to avoid that first pot. He knows the score. Let’s hope the players can rouse themselves to too.

They are but they have a massive match against Brugge on Sunday so will have one eye on that, it's expected that they will rest players.

Aside from wanting to win because I always want to win and we want to keep momentum up, I’m really not fussed about tonight’s result. We could win the group and still end up with Sociedad, Milan, Leverkusen or Benfica, who are better than any of the champions league third place anyway, and there’s still a chance of Lille, Napoli or Rangers which will also be tough, especially Napoli. As such, full rotation please.

I think we will start reasonably strong, but without Kane and Son so with Bale, Dele, Lucas and Vinicius.
