To be honest mate, after recent performances, I am not entirely sure that the players don't have that attitude.

That's why I brought it up.

All I said was the manager has a job on his hands to make sure the playing staff are motivated when we are at that stage of the season when we aren't competing for much.

Especially when that manager has explicitly stated, repeatedly, that we are not competing for top 4.
You know he said that because he wants more than top 4 though right? We're neck and neck with Villa and we will believe we can get 4th. It's a tall order but it's far from over because it's been so unpredictable this season.

It's an interesting psychological question really.

When "more" is no longer a possibility, does he switch his rhetoric in the dressing room switch to wanting top 4 now?

It will be a very interesting period. Can he motivate the players at this stage of the season? Something a lot of managers do struggle with in similar circumstances.

Ange is competing to win. He does not want to set or accept lower expectations.
What about when those 'higher expectations' become an impossibility?

Do those 'lower expectations ' become the new priority?

Next season he says he wants a title charge. But let's just say, hypothetically, that that expectation looks unlikely after the first few months of the season.

How will he motivate the squad?

I think people think i am having a dig. I'm not.

What I am saying is that I am interested in seeing how well he motivates this group of players when the high expectations he has slips away.

He's been talking about the gap behind City when asked about Utd. The gap is still similar so I think he will drill into the players to just aim to win every game and see where we end up. It's just about looking up and not down.

We're competing to finish as high as we can, he has stated that several times.

So is everyone else, that isn't specific to us.

But the trope of "they look like they're already on their holidays" has existed for years, and don't think it has existed without reason.

No, he has said that specifically....even added about why we're not in the title conversation ( a few weeks ago)

No idea how youve missed that, he's said it numerous times.

Anyway, the point is our season isnt over. Far from it.

Would settle for a draw now but just don’t see it. Think the Newcastle and Fulham performance's have finished me off And I have no confidence in the team at all.

Could understand the negativity if we were away to them, but we're stll pretty strong at home.

We can still beat them.

We go on about how we should be beating sides like Newcastle who have umpteen injuries and lose them. Davies isn't a bad player by any means and might actually be better defensively v Saka.
