Must win game, made even more important by the likely forthcoming fixture congestion and need for rotation.

Strongest team out and go for them!

Parker was advised Saturday afternoon of the possibility they might have to play us on 13th Jan. Fulham spent the next 24 hours making representations against it to the Prem, who decided and advised both club secretaries on Monday morning. They had more time to prepare than they are suggesting, but used some of that time to argue instead. Jose would not have been certain what he was preparing for (Villa / Fulham / No game & Sheff Utd on Sunday) so the switch to play Fulham is just as inconvenient for us and we could NOT prepare for them til Monday anyway due to our cup game on Sunday - so both clubs have had equal time to prepare to play the opponent.

Bring in double headers, play 1 game, quick rub down, a quarter of orange and a fag, then out again and play the other.....

And both clubs have conveniently "overlooked" that playing the match now vs. much later in the season means that more of a tactical fundament is already prepared and can be copied over from whatever preparations in that sense happened a couple of weeks ago. Whatever the content of the briefings were on the match day last time is still valid.

I think its gonna be a shellacking....4-0 to us

I was just looking at their form. They have drawn 4 of their last few games (including liverpool) and lost to an in form city. I think they look much better than earlier in the season.

Yes, my thoughts were more on what I expect from us than them. I just have a feeling that we will really click tonight. Famous last fucking words!

We've only ever beaten them by 6 goals once in the history of this fixture 7-1 on the 2nd May 1942 so I'm going for 6-0 (y)

This game and Sheffield United should be games where we can get our goal difference back up.

Both teams will want to play, both need points so should leave gaps. I'd rather play these 2 than say Palace who will just sit for 90 minutes and take whatever happens. Should be open games, hopefully we have enough quality to see both off and get back towards the top of the table.

To be honest though I think we're more likely to sit back than our opponent's at the moment. We seem to have 2 different modes when playing, one where we're sitting back and feeding off scraps, not creating much and playing purely and strictly counter attacking football and one where we press, play with more evident confidence, actually pass the ball around and have a bit of tempo to our play. We saw the latter in the first 30 minutes away to Palace, 2nd half against Liverpool, after we scored the first against Leeds and after the second goal against Brentford. But outside of those periods the football was fairly uninspiring.

If we saw that football a bit more often I'd be more confident. I think we will win anyway but my only concern is what side of us we will see.

Yeah that's true but I think we know how important these next 2 are before playing Liverpool. Hopefully we seem a more attacking setup tonight to try and kill the game off in the first half and not have to sit and defend a 1 goal lead for 88 minutes.

We have another 'golden opportunity' in the next few matches and that is a situation I have come to dread. The last such opportunity saw us plummet from top place to 8th in matches where it seemed we couldn't be arsed. We should be putting teams like Fulham to the sword but we've failed repeatedly to do so now for as long as I can remember. Hoping to see a major improvement in motivation and mentality starting tonight.

Can I just put a disclaimer that the Match Thread is not a good portrayal of SC itself! ?
You'll find some really odd posts in here, throughout the game and it's not a great reflection of the site as a whole. ??

Yeah hopefully mate. The players will be fairly fresh too for maybe the first time in a while so hopefully that will show on the pitch.

Don't do it yourselves lads. It's the hope that kills you.
