Made a video on Leeds and the weaknesses of Bielsa's system.

I'd hope that we can exploit them the way that West Ham did in this game.

I haven't actually watched Leeds since then to see if they fixed some of these holes in their game but I'll go through a few here.

LIMITED COVER FOR FULL BACKS

Both full backs have to bomb on, but unlike when Aurier or Reguilon get forward for us they are not covered by the CM on their side - only Phillips provides cover for them. On some occasions they only had the two CBs and Phillips back in defensive positions, Poch used to do this with Toby, Jan & Dier sitting whilst every other player threw themselves into the attack. For Leeds, Klich joins the front line rather than covering

If Son and Kane are sharp and Lamela can disrupt play we can exploit these spaces.

LACK OF HEIGHT AT SET-PIECES

Leeds use a mixed marking strategy by zonally marking the front post and using man marking in central areas. WH were smart and had every attacker by Soucek and Ogbonna (their biggest players) attack the front post to create a diversion. This allowed Soucek and Ogbonna, the big men, to isolate their markers and over power them in the centre.

We have been very poor from set pieces for some time now but we need to get Dier & Kane in these situations. Leeds don't have too many big physically imposing players and this can be a way to prey on their vulnerabilities.

BUILDING FROM THE BACK

As it's been noted, Leeds like to build from the back and look to get the ball out to the FBs early so that they can create diagonal play with the AMs. WH countered this by allowing the CBs to have the ball but put two players onto the FB or the player arriving in the half space, this meant that when they won the ball back they had a spare man to make a run whilst the other collected the ball.

We could copy this blueprint or we could do what United did and just press them higher to force them into mistakes. If we played like we did vs United and press high early we may catch them out and score early or we can sit back and play more like we did vs City but that would rely on us being sharper to them to the second balls in the danger areas.

PRESSING

It's well known that Leeds press relentlessly. They've won games well by this strategy but they've also been caught out by Wolves, Leicester, WH & Palace because they get caught out by committing too many players to an attack or press. Wolves basically said to them "We're gunna sit back and let you tire yourselves out first half and then we'll be fresher second half to take over the game" which they did. Leicester and Palace made more use of the quick counter and committed more men in transitions.

We can't build from the back because Leeds will press us and Dier/Sissoko are poor when pressed. However, Ndombele is a key player in a game like this as he can combat a press alone, we need to get him into some good positions to draw players out - if we can get him to excel I can see a copy of our game vs Southampton.

To win, we need to score first. The team's confidence is low and sitting back and allowing Leeds to come out and relentlessly press for the first goal would be a big mistake. They have many good ball strikers in their team and create a huge number of quality chances, even against teams that sit back like West Brom did this week.

I'd like to see Lamela start with Son, Kane, and Bergwijn. Playing three CMs is just too defensive at home and asking for trouble in this game. We need to press them and push up the pitch.

Weirdly I'm looking forward to this game more than most other spurs games..I feel Leeds can get us to attack and if its end to end you would fancy kane and son to outscore them

I feel Leeds could play right into our hands. They play attacking football, and we'll have to be on our defensive game, but I certainly see our counter attacking game suited to Leeds' style of play.

Only problem we have is after going 1 goal up, we still sit back for the counter attack, but then forget to attack until the other team score!

Our passing in the last 5 games has been fucking atrocious. Repeat that today and it won’t be pretty. I wouldn’t play sissoko today because of it.

Yes. I have to agree somewhat. Whilst the emphasis is on the other team to push forward and try and score once we've taken a lead, I do feel we give the opposition a helping hand far too often with our insistence of sitting back and looking to hit on the counter.

All well and good if we can defend well, but numerous times this season has seen this approach fail.

Much sooner see us actually try and dictate in our attacking play as opposed to soaking up the pressure and hitting on the break. We might actually give the opposition alot more to think about defence wise as opposed to the odd counter from us.

Really excited for this game. I have been very sceptical of Leeds and Bielsa so looking forward to seeing what they can do against us. Everyone says Leeds games are never boring so if they can still be exciting against Mourinho then hats off to them!

Hoping we turn up for this one. I don't give a shit what tactics or formation we play, we have good enough players to win this. I just want us to play to our ability. Hopefully Kane is on form after his wife gave birth this week. Maybe he'll get a hattrick for new Louis Harry Kane.

Slightly concerned about this game...could be a lot harder/tighter than it should be

Even with the danger of the weekend being ruined, it feels so good to not have to wait so long for our match

Had a really vivid dream last night that Mourinho played Sissoko, Winks, Hojbjerg, Dier and Wanyama in a midfield 5. Was fuming. COYS

This is one game where our counter attacking might actually work ... as long as the players realise:

a) We need more than 2 attackers to join in attacks.
b) When we do attack the defence needs to shift up the pitch to make the pitch smaller.

The problem in the last few games has been that the 'leaders' in our team (Lloris/Dier/Hojbjerg) have decided to really dig in on the edge of our box protecting a 1 goal lead and Mourinho has let them (or more likely instructed them to) do this. I get the impression that Dier is very happy for digging in as it means he is not exposed and does not have to mark anyone but Hojbjerg needs to drag the CBs further up the pitch when we attack. Kane needs to make sure our 'on pitch leadership' is not overly defence focused on just not conceding. And Mourinho needs to make it clear that it is not acceptable for both CMs to drop into the back 4 as it leaves us penned in.

I am still torn as to whether to watch this game. The last month our games have been boringly frustrating and made me really, really angry, ruining subsequent family time. It is the final weekend of the Xmas holidays, we have a family roast planned for this afternoon with the kids and some family video calls in the evening, and I am not sure I want to have my day ruined by Mourinho's 'park the bus at home', anti-football tactics. But then the optimist in me says this it s the game it will all click back in again, and Leeds pushing on naively will result in Son and Kane having a field day and scoring a hat-trick each. It simply is a must win game for us if we want to stay in the race.

I don't blame you mate, after the Wolves game I said to myself that the Fulham game would be the one that determines whether I continue bothering to watch us play as if we did what we did against Wolves at home to Fulham too then that would leave me done.

With lockdown though I just don't have anything else to do. If it's midway through and we're playing like absolute crap and losing I can probably quite easily switch over, but initially I'm not sure I could do other things around the house knowing the game is on. If I could go out and do things it's a different story.

I'm really looking forward to this game. I desperately want us to dismantle them.

However, I think we'll lose. Just my opinion. It could be a dismantling either way and we could destroy them on the counter. I just think they'll peg us back and the way they go for the jugular worries me.

Hope I'm wrong. Come on boys!!!
