My brother is a Liverpool fan (dont).
He is adamant it wasnt a pen and said if that had been given the other way he'd have been livid.
Also made an interesting point regarding how shit both teams were. We know it was hot but they were both slow right from the start. He said maybe both coaches said "look, its fkin boiling out there so dont go all guns blazing and be totally fked after 15mins. Pace yourself' or words to that effect. So they go out, goal in the first 20 secs resulting in a lathargic shit show for 90mins. J
Just a thought.

Was it pointed out that the ref was the same one who gave the penalty to Man U v PSG ? He called VAR on that one. Probably was mentioned - I wasn't in the thread during the game or thereafter.
No way! Fkin pricks trying to make a name for himself then.

i like this

what annoyed me most was our lack of speeding up in first part of second half.

it felt like as you say they were pacing themselves anyway, and for me we seemed to be approaching it like
'we always score one late on' and 'then we would be having to gear up for extra time'

thats the only excuse i can find for that period of play [setting aside team selection]

The players bought into the Liverpool hype and seemed resigned to losing. Not a yellow card, not any fight and they did not even look at all to bothered about losing.

For me the whole match feels worse and worse the more i think about it. Before anyone say how great it is to even be in a CL final; yes i agree, but when we're there why not try and win it?
Don't think the team believed they could or can win anything still the wait goes on and on.

I'm saying that you've probably chosen those matches because they fit well with the narrative you're trying to paint.

I mean if you think that a league match against Burnely is bigger than a CL Semi for example then we've got problems haven't we.
Now you're just having a dig , The Burnley game away was seen this season if we won would have us in the.mix for prem league with the list of matches we had remaining , instead of digging me out why don't you positively make a argument list the big games we have won ,or would that interfere with your homework to much .

With respect I haven't taken your post seriously because your analysis is very easy to pick holes in.

You listed the Juve match last season which was the CL k.o stage yet you've completely ignored that we got to the final this season meaning that we won our k.o matches, by your definition they are big matches if you include the Juve match...you're basically contradicting yourself.

The Burnley match wasn't a big game by anyone's criteria, we beat Leicester the week before to stay in contention for the league so why wasn't that included in your list by your definition?

You're using selective data to try and force home a point.

Bit like many of our supporters apparently.

Pick up some litter
while you're waiting.
Do something useful.
Just saying it how it was mate there was a lack of belief from the player's certainly would explain some of the tepid approach.
As for the litter picking I didn't want to take that job away from you seeing what a great job you do.(y)

I'm still struggling coming to terms with it. I get depressed every time I visit somewhere I haven't been since just before the final.

In my head I'm just thinking things like.... the last time I was here at my parents house I was sat on that sofa watching the moura goal on youtube..... the last time I was sat at this bus stop I was watching the moura goal on youtube...... the last time I was in this restaurant I was watching the moura goal on youtube....

If we played well and lost then fine id accept it, if Liverscum batttered us then fine id accept it but the more i think about the game the more there is regret. I know I didnt play in the game but just feels like a what if game... we really could have won the game irrespective of the pen or not.

I just dont understand what went on in the game because i would have expected us to come out in the second half all guns blazing but it was just such a whimper... so much regret.

That's what 27 degree heat and a 3 week break with unfit players will do to you I suppose.

I’m really struggling to remember anything about the game. Passages of play, opportunities can’t even remember some players touching the ball, it’s all a bit of a blur, seemed to be over in a flash. Not sure I particularly want to watch it all again to get a proper idea of why It didn’t happen for us.

So then pick holes , yes we beat city VAR , we beat Ajax due to the miracle of Moura , Burnley was a big game we won that and we are in touching distance of city and Liverpool , as for Leicester that was the home game we lost at the lane when us and Leicester was going for the league , you don't even read before you sprout off . so come on awaiting your easy pick holes comment , of course you cant. .

Last year when Liverpool played Real I remember thinking how the hell have they got to the final again? We are better than them, we have finished above them in the league in 8 out of the last 9 seasons, yet here they are in the champions league final again? I asked myself if we’d ever get to the final and concluded it was highly unlikely in the short term at least.

Having got there, I said to myself we have surpassed all reasonable expectations, but the only thing i’d ask of fate is that we don’t get battered having not shown up (ie the goons in the europa final), or that if we lose we don’t lose in a cruel way - ie to a stoppage time shithouse goal, or Liverpool doing to us what we did to ajax

None of those things happened, I had an awesome 3 days in Madrid with my teenage son and many friends, and there’s so much pride we can take from our whole champions league run.

But but but........I too have some nagging regrets. If we had equalised or scored first I am convinced we would have won.

Well done for admitting that, they were of course in big matches - you've contradicted yourself massively, just accept it.

Burnley was a big game as was Leicester the week before which we won the week before this season, the only reason you're focusing on the Burnley match is because it fuels your narrative.

I know what Leicester match you're on about, we beat Man City twice that season as well, weren't they big games by your definition? Oh maybe you mean games where should we lose then we drop points in the title race, how about beating Stoke 4-0 then a couple of weeks prior to dropping points against Chelsea...we can do this all day fella.

I'm reading your nonsense but you're just speaking a lot of shit, sorry to say.

Same boat. Thought it must have been because I was at the stadium instead of watching it directly in front of my tv at home. Weird game.

Liked your post, Dov. Basically, reflected my thoughts leading up to the game. But, the whole game was about your last line. We didn't really look like equalizing over those 90 plus minutes. It was up to us to provide the creativity, energy, spark, movement and momentum to change that game, and we didn't come anywhere close to doing that.

There were the Moura and Son chances, but nothing too troubling for their defence overall during the whole game.

It's all just speculation re the "ifs", but the actual reality gave us some lessons in how we need to get stronger.

Danny Blanchflower's famous quote bears repeating here:

"We aim to equalise before the other team score. We should get our retaliation in first."
