Ange has been waiting for this game for years.

City off the back of CL travels.

Our team is still good, we tore Villa a new one, with this team. If our front line took a quarter of their chances, we’d have monstered Villa, and they’re a decent team.

City played at home on Tuesday, can't see that having much of an effect.

When I saw the upcoming fixtures (Villa, Shiteh, Newcastle) I immediately thought 0 points out of 9. I still think that.

Doku is going to demolish us
I'm sure that we'll expect a meltdown from some if we lose, regardless of the fact that no-one is probably expecting more than us having a go at them. It's a difficult one - the way that we are trying to play keeps the optimism going whilst we are enduring all these injuries- in stark contrast to last season but realistically, going toe to toe with them in the way that Ange sets up means that it could be a painful afternoon in terms of conceding goals but I'd rather see us ship six and go for it than ship two and spend the whole game doing nothing more than keep the score down. It's a massive cliche but it is a process.

A good performance with no reward v Aston Villa and more injury problems for a squad stretched to its limits. Next we are going to The Etihad and it's hide behind the sofa time! We just don't have a centre half available who can contain Haaland or Alvarez, while the likes of Doku, Foden and Silva will pull us all over the place. On top of that they also have powerful headers of the ball like Ake, Rodri and Akanji who can hurt us on set pieces. They have conceded goals this season- four at Chelsea, and dropped points in their last two games, but while we have a midfield and forwards who could cause them problems we are just so vulnerable defensively (whoever plays in there) that I can see no other outcome than we are going to get walloped. Manchester City 5 Tottenham Hotspur 1. COYS!

If I’m city, and only score two against us, that would be hugely embarrassing. Yet, a massive win for us. I think it’ll be a fun game for the neutral fan.

It's alright for you lot, Sunday is about over when this game ends, over here it kicks off at 1030 so basically fucks up the rest of Sunday. I'm actually a bit scared to watch it quite honestly.

This one couldn't be telegraphed as more of a free hit. The manager basically telling everyone since day 1 we'll keep the high line and there will be painful times ahead. Fair enough. The fear is the players dont take responsibility for basic competence and we get into silly territory like that first 20 mins vs Newcastle last season.

This one could go beyond 6 conceded when you see the state of our defending without our 1st choice centre halves. Slack pressing with the high line and very poor set piece defending and we'll be in for a cricket score.

Strong pressing and some worldie performances from Johnson and Kulusevski and maybe we make a game of it

I’m not sure I understand your point here. In the first line you say about it being “telegraphed” as a free hit whilst for the rest of the post you talk about how we might easily get demolished and “be in for a cricket score”.

So you think everyone will be fine with us losing by 6 or 7 as it’s a free hit? Or you think Ange might (mistakenly?) think it’s a free hit? What’s your position?

I think we could lose by a lot and that'll be difficult to handle. Everyone wont be fine with it and the response to it would matter a lot. I understand the manager's plan and to proceed with the style regardless of opposition. I support that. That plan and front foot approach can win in general, but isnt at the moment for several reasons.

I think he's well aware that the honeymoon and new manager bounce is over. If we lose 5 or 6 on the trot, he'll know he needs a turnaround. A shellacking here followed by 2 more defeats will have an negative impact.

My concern about the 'free hit' mentality is that it's been telegraphed too much. We have flaky players and they are unreliable and dont need an invitation to not take responsibility in the set piece defending, 1 v 1 duels, concentration, organisation etc. I didnt really enjoy getting tonked 4-1 at home to Chelsea despite the 'feel good' bullshit that surrounded that game.

I don't for a second believe our players will be going in thinking it's a free hit. Our players aren't the ones who are flaky, it's fans like you.

Our players will go out believing we can give them a game and win playing our football.

The players will believe they can win.

We're setting up to adhere to this way of playing for the long term.

To create change you have to stick with it consistently and the players have to have complete confidence that the manager believes in it.
