Isn’t that why we’ve signed lo celso and ndombele?

I was even more concerned about this game on Friday when I heard Tanguy was out because he’s the one who tries to pass forward. He was a big miss already.
Absolutely - unfortunate with Ndombele but a fully fit Ndombele and Lo Celso are certainly intended to offer us options - hopefully an added dimension to our play - patience will be needed though. Ndombele has already shown glimpses of what he's about. Hopefully people will be patient with Lo Celso.

Unfortunately 75% of games, in my experience, are like the Villa/Newcastle ones

Agree on the flags. It feels like a really nice posh hotel, it’s almost overly welcoming. Must be lovely for other teams to play at, nothing intimidating at all.

Yeah, it’s nice and clean. My favourite flag is the Argie one with Poch on it.
We need to make it our own and put our own stamp on the place.

The Argie connection at the club is a thing, I often wonder why we’ve not made much more of it. Look at some of the things that go on at Poch’s Newells Old Boys -

Obviously I’d never expect us to suddenly start dressing up and I’m not volunteering to be the bloke in the morph suit going nutty with an umbrella! Maybe we could lift a couple of their songs though and make them our own?

Liverpool get their place rocking with songs they lift from everywhere and anywhere.

One of “their”songs being taken to a completely different level by River fans -

I said this In the stadium thread but we should really rearrange the away section. Give them a little section that goes all the way up, at the moment the away fans have to many pitch side seats. It’s maybe because of the tv angle but every game feels like an FA cup game. Doesn’t feel very intimidating for the away players or referee. Don’t know why it wasn’t thought about when designing/planning the stadium.

Well, I don't know about anyone else, but I've had a night to sleep on it and yep, I can confirm that my Bank Holiday weekend still feels ruined this morning. Thanks Spurs.

When Sanchez arrived he played virtually the whole season and was just that: a rock. The reason why he's different now is simple. First he's playing on the left side when he's a right-sided centre back. Secondly, and crucially, during that first season he was alongside Vertonghen and now he is partnered by Alderweireld. Toby is a great defender, but that's all. Jan is also a leader. Sanchez, as a central defender in the early stage of his career at the top level, needs an experienced leader alongside him. If he gets that - if he partners Vertonghen, and if his confidence isn't shot by the time that happens - he'll be a rock again.
Wish I could give this post 10 winner reps... Don’t understand the Sanchez hate, when he clearly isn’t a left sided centre back. If we’re not going to play Jan then why not play the more experienced Toby in his place and the younger Sanchez at right CB, where he’s more comfortable?

Just woke up from a 22 hour round trip to the game yesterday. Fuming. We were so poor and I have to put the blame on Poch. I can understand the play being slower yesterday, it was sweltering, but it as also been systematic of our play for 6 months or so now, but it wasn't that was bothering me, it was the complete lack of movement from our attacking unit or midfield players. I suspect Winksy had a lot of criticism yesterday, but to be honest he had no option to go left or right because no one was moving. And that comes down on Poch and tactics. Its basic stuff. A couple of balls were floated in over the top first time but nothing happened.

We really missed Alli yesterday. We missed him playing of Kane and making runs of the back of defenders or from deep. No one in the side was really doing that yesterday. We just had three attacking players stood on the 18 yard box line waiting. Son dropped a bit shorter in the second half but he was just running down blind alleys.

As for Sanchez, I'm a fan of his, he had a rough game. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I think we need to stick with him because Jan's and Toby future are uncertain, and for age issues. We could end up with them two going and a third central defender unhappy because he isn't playing and wanting to leave. I think he can be a very good defender, and he needs experience to iron out these odd games where he has a bit of a mare.

I'm normally one of the more positive and optimistic posters on here but to be honest I felt it was kind of the beginning of the end for Poch after yesterday. Thought it was a bit of a knee-jerk reaction but I just seen the thread with the same title. I hope it isn't, got a fuck ton of work to do.

Don't get me wrong, we were shocking for 90 minutes. However, I do believe had the penalty been given and scored there was time to get another (like Villa). Again doesn't hide or excuse the fact we were really poor ourselves. Nothing but sideways passing. At least when City has the ball 70% they create things, whereas we did bugger all. Vertonghen must start v Arsenal and I pray Dele is back.

On another note, Mike Dean needs to piss off and stop reffing our games even with VAR he still has to be that guy.

If only we'd been able to find a proven and experienced, target man in the summer. Would have offered us an option to just whack the ball into, rather than pansying about the centre box.

That big lad who played for us in the CL last season seemed handy

To be honest I thought there was only going to be one outcome when I saw the starting lineup. Without the new additions and Eriksen, that midfield is so uninspiring and unimaginitive.

Sean Dyche will be in awe at Newcastle's tactics and wetting himself with excitement, positively green with envy,he will be playing the whole 90 mins of that over and over again in the week leading up to their trip to play us, he will be saying "that's how it's done lads, time wasted, and shithoused to perfection." He will also be praying that Mike Dean is awarded the gig again.
That all said, like others have also said, we must take on considerable responsibility for being painfully slow and predictable in the build up play to allow the opposition an age to get everyone behind the ball to block everything.

Especially with 6’2 Kane in the box. He’s great in the air too

Unfortunately he hasn't shown that since his ankle injuries - still seems reluctant to get off the ground. more often than not he backs in under the defender, trying to draw a foul.

Behave.
Sanchez and Winks awful? First game you’ve ever watched? Utter bollocks

Poch? Fucked it but he’s hamstrung a bit. We’ve downgraded our first 11 every year for past 2/3 years. Our right back situation sums it all up

Walker to Trippier to KWP/Sissoko. Stop kidding yourselves lads. Two steps forward two steps back.

Eriksen situation another great example.
Not sure what you were watching mate.
Sanchez is an accident waiting to happen and Winks offers nothing but slow sideways backwards ball retention.
As for ranting about us downgrading, who said we havent? I didnt. Agree with every word. But we are still far better than Newcastle.
Poch set us up to play like that. Are you seriously trying to say we never had good enough players out there to beat newcastle at home???
That IS utter bollocks

We've 'downgraded' every year we've been in the Prem but I believed its slowed down or stopped. Apart from Walker, I don't agree. We stood still last 2 years if you're considering a crocked Dembele.

People giving Sanchez a lot of flak today for a goal that is just as much Rose's and Poch's fault. Our intensity and communication is way off the mark and Rose was ball-watching just as much as Sanchez on the goal.

Not to mention our shambolic attacking display in literally every game since january. Our lack of movement on and off the ball is unacceptable and that is solely up to Poch to adress. Where is the passion that he's always talking about? Where is the hunger?

The conceded goal 100% Sanchez for me. Rose shouldnt just give up the wide area or what happens each time we play ManCity will happen, the opposition will see that we're always exposed on the opposite flank because we defend too narrowly. The defeat Poch to blame and posts have already laid that blame.

Sanchez and Winks are far from awful footballers. Winks is being asked to play in a role I’m not sure is suited to his game at all. He needs someone alongside him, at least one imo. He didn’t play well yesterday, but plenty of others didn’t too.

On the display yesterday the ones I’d say aren’t good enough for us were Lamela and KWP. By a mile. Neither will ever be good enough for us. Its going to be a hell of a long season if Lamela is our chief creator...he wouldn’t make Leicester, Everton or even West Ham’s starting XI. Frankly, that’s pathetic.

Winks and Sanchez certainly have roles to play going forward. The set up isn’t good enough, hence why I said Poch fucked it, but he’s still been hamstrung by the last minute arrivals and ridiculous contract situations that are ongoing. Chuck in the zero attempt to improve the side and he’s not been helped ( along with not helping himself at times )
