When we can’t keep the ball, we can’t prevent the opposition from scoring. This has been a theme, match after match. We go through these 10 minute periods where we repeatedly cough up possession and it nearly always leads to conceding a goal.

The defence does not deal well with sustained pressure. It’s not clear why. It was a very good goal, although Benteke had too much space, but the underlying issue is that we concede these chaotic periods of losing the ball and giving it back as soon as we win it, which puts the defence under pressure when they aren’t set.

Result: conceding a goal, nearly every time.

I couldn't agree more. The passing ability of a few of our players is unbelievably poor. The attempted pass from Moura was ridiculous. He had as much chance of that ball getting through as a camel passing through the eye of a needle. Many of these wayward passes by the players are being made when they are not under any particular pressure.

I think he got homesick and left. I don't think your depiction is correct.
You’re confusing two events. He was homesick for Edinburgh when he was 16 and took a trip home. Much later he was sold to Middlesbrough because he didn’t feel valued at Tottenham.

He was slagging someone else off the other day before a game too, can’t remember who it was now but I thought same as you at time no wonder he pissed off so many players under him (in particular at Liverpool who he ruined lol).

Just looked at Wikipedia. It claims that Souness, still a teenager, went to Bill Nick and asked why he wasn't getting a chance in the first team as he was the best player at the club :joyful:.

At that time our players included Mike England, Glizean, Greaves, Jennings, Mullery, etc.

That’s not factually correct. He did go to Bill Nick but never made the claim he was the best player. What he thought was that he was a better midfielder than Perryman which proved demonstrably true.

The two clear heroes are obvious. But Lucas was heavily involved in 3 of the goals and Lamela's pass to son was WORLD CLASS. Lucas was my MOTM yesterday. Worked tirelessly and was superb. Lamela when he came on just piled on more misery on Palace.

I would just like to point out to the "we have bang average players" brigade, that we have now scored 13 and coceded 1 in our last 4 maches. And don't start on the "quality" of the opposition. Just ask Liverpool what they think about it.
ask liverpool and leicester and arsenal as well. Weirdly when we smashed Burnley many pundits and on pods people just said well it was burnley. That tone changed quickly against Leicester, i'll wait and see what they say about arsenal, but two teams we are competing against couldn't beat burnley.

I must say that Son's passing has been utterly attrocious lately. Yes, he made a blinding pass last night, but also missed several key ones before that.

Very pleasing win.

Here's hoping that Moura has earned a bit more appreciation for his output as opposed to the usual pre match bashing before a ball is kicked.

He has driven forward and broke the lines on numerous occasions of late, and his hard work led to one goal, and he had a hand in another yesterday.
He was heavily involved in three and took part in the 4th as well. This was his best game since Ajax

The fact is that he doesn’t look as sharp and had been for a while now, maybe tiredness as he had been playing almost every single game just like PEH who also appears to have a dip in form recently but with every game being so important it’s just too risky to rest them. Hopefully they won’t be called up in coming internationals and can get the 2 weeks off

Played really well against Burnley and last night as well - he's still contributing in other ways.

No he hasn't, he just hasn't scored.

Yes he’s still contributing but he could be so much more if he can regain his sharpness. Not sure keep playing him 90 minutes every game is such a good idea.

I wish Coleman was on sky more, someone who actually speaks sense.

Coleman was a welcome presence, without being particualry insightful or even that good. It just shows how low Sky have set the bar for co-comms.

How Alan Smith is still in a job is beyond me.

I personally am very happy that we are in the race for top four but I do think we have left ourselves with too much to do and still think the EL is where the season lies for me ...
But we are capable of doing really well and can go take this run further. Basically it's nice to be playing well and winning again. And I think the manager deserves credit

I agree I don't think we will win the EL but I certainly feel finishing top six is possible providing we keep playing as we are we will certainly win more than we lose.
Even reaching a cup final is not bad considering how disjointed we have been, as long as this club has European football next season is the main driver.

Dumb near fact.

If Lamela would have replaced Lucas in the starting XI, we would have started the players witht the squad numbers 1-11. I wonder when that happened the last time.
