I'd forgotten that Marcus McGuane had ended up at Oxford. Another one from an academy (albeit Arsenal's) that didn't hit the heights that were expected.

The one thing our 1st team and 1st team coach can learn from these youngsters display this eve- is much faster slick passing / build up play and the intent of urgency to try and win a game

We haven't yet (I think)
Puts us 3rd, but on the same points as 2nd and 4th

We could finish 2nd if Cambridge can beat Stevenage
You're right. We need Stevenage to lose by at least two goals or lose and not score more than 1 goal to finish 2nd in the group and advance.

Just got back. Must admit that I enjoyed watching this more than our sclerotic first team at the moment. I don’t think we were lacking in quality, just out muscled and experienced at times.
On tonight’s showing I don’t think either Scarlett or Markanday are ready for the first team.
I think maybe too much expectation has been placed on Danes shoulders and if I’m honest he looked a better player last season. We have to be careful we don’t throw him under a bus by burning him out too early - Son and Kane need more immediate back up.
Dane missed a sitter after a rebound from a shot hitting a post but these things happen.
Overall Clarke was by far and away our best player, and perhaps the best player on the pitch. It must be apparent to him that the clock is ticking on his career and the £10m tag hanging over him somewhat and he did show some real quality and took his goal well. He was also the only player who came over at the end to sign autographs - the rest couldn’t wait to get off the pitch and did not even acknowledge the fans and there was quite a few young ones there- a nice touch and display of maturity. He has certainly gone up in my estimation after tonight.
Craig at right back also came more into the game as it went on. Maybe one to look out for.
Cesay at left back was a bit erratic.

Agree to most of what you said but not on clarke, for me white was our best player, most accomplished of the lot by far

I really like Craig although I must confess I have no idea which one I’m talking about. It could be Michael it could be Matthew it could be both, really to confusing. Anyway they ( or he) has the sort of Skipp solid dependability about them.

It was Michael Craig who played tonight and yes he did look solid. Didn’t give much going forward but that’s probably because we needed to give Clarke licence to roam up top. A tidy looking player anyway.

Great report and nice to hear re: Clarke. He's still a young, developing player and I often feel that he's given far too much criticism due to the price we paid for him.

It is not his fault that our club determined he was worth circa 10 million pounds. Hopefully he continues to put his head down and improve.

What’s happened to Harvey White?

Wouldn’t mind seeing him given some chances in league cup or europa.

that kit/sock combo is just wrong.

looked like markanday was playing on the left but he's not really effective there.

Absolute beauty of a goal from Clarke.

Really interesting to hear your thoughts @Buggsy61, I think the lad is given far too much unfair stick on here, which he certainly wouldn't get if he was "one of our own". Let's hope he can build on this.

Our team seems to naive, lacking football nouse or 'smarts' ...

They certainly can entertain at times, slick passing and go for it ... but too many lose passes, lazy play and lack of off ball work .... best description is talented kids, kids being the operative words.

I guess a team is merely a reflection of its owners.

is it because he's not one of our own or is it because when you're brought in for 10m, fans expect more than what he's shown so far?

devine and paskotsi aren't one of our own either but are they treated differently to those who are? even when you strip everything back and forget who came from where and who cost what, up until the past couple of games clarke has been objectively performing at a lower level than all of those around him. if he'd been performing at markanday's level for example then people would be praising him, likewise if markanday had performed at the level clarke had then no one would be talking about him. it's true that he wouldn't really be getting criticised much either but then he didn't come in with a big fee and big expectations, sorry but that's just the nature of the game.

i don't think coming in here with a comment obviously aimed to antagonise is particularly helpful btw.
