Yeah 5 should always be a centre back number with 4 and 6 then being either a defender or midfielder (not them both being same position if you know what I mean).
So whilst I'm glad 4 and 5 are our first choice centre backs I would prefer ideally that Toby take 6 and (controversy alert!) Dier takes number 4.
Wanyama depends on what numbers are vacated as said above (6, 8 or 12 currently could or could not be available).
But to be honest I'm just still happy Kane took no.10 last summer
In recent seasons we've tidied our numbers up nicely with Walker finally taking 2 (as was concerned he'd stick with 28 for 'luck' reasons like that plum Luke Shaw giving up number 3 for 23, which I think is a bit weak), Rose getting 3, Lloris getting 1, Kane getting 10 as aforementioned, Bentaleb 6 and Mason 8 before they perhaps didn't meet the standards this season they'd previously met etc.
Probably minimal changes. There's too many commercial reasons why it's not good for players to needlessly change:
1 Hugo Lloris
2 Kyle Walker
3 Danny Rose
4 Toby Alderweireld
5 Jan Vertonghen
6 Nabil Bentaleb
7 Heung-Min Son
8 Ryan Mason
9 Vincent Janssen
10 Harry Kane
11 Erik Lamela
12 Victor Wanyama
13 Michel Vorm
14 Clinton Njie
15 Eric Dier
16 Kieran Trippier
17 Josh Onomah
18
19 Mousa Dembele
20 Dele Alli
21 Harry Winks
22 Luke McGee
23 Christian Eriksen
24 Cameron Carter-Vickers
25
26
27 Kevin Wimmer
28
29
30
31
32
33 Ben Davies
I think Winks, Onomah and McGee will be given lower number shirts, and 2CV given one this season. I think the 18 might be kept in reserve for now.

no pritch? i'd give him his brentford number (21).
Are there any decent articles or similar explaining the history of numbering systems? I imagine they differ from country to country, but I've never been able to find anything solid and have always been curious.
I assume, at least in England, that our "peculiar" system (3 5 6 2) is rooted in the old centre half system.
The team and the club have more important things to concentrate on.
I wonder if this is a clue
Do we think that the club release the new ones before the first game or confirm them at the close of the transfer window?
I think he likes the 15.He wore 25 initially when we signed him but changed to 15 when Capoue took the 29.Dier to number 6?
