Brilliantly set up and brilliantly scored. No question.

Raises the argument yet again of pitchside video replays.
No - if we started having pitchside video for offside calls it'd just encourage players to argue the toss with the ref more. How would it be decided to use the replays? Would it only be used if the player believed he was onside and told the ref as much? If that is the case then it'd mean every single offside, obvious or not, would be contested and the game would be so broken up it'd get ridiculous.

no way man, just put a bunch of lasers spanning the length of the pitch. then the lasers distinguish between shirt colours (or some use of RFID's) to determine if he was out of position once the ball (also tracked by a laser) played.

something like that.

But then, rules were made to be broken, so techn-enforcing these rules might subtract a fundamental element of the sport...

but i definately think goal line lasers should be used to 100% and instantly determine whether or not the entire ball crosses the line.

at least decisions like this means our fans complain about the ref/linesmen and not our players  makes a nice change

See, my overall problem with tendering out vital parts of the game solely to the responsibility of machines lies in the fact that without human monitoring machines will and frequently do cock-up.

The line technology they use in tennis was the greatest revolution to the game, being dead on balls accurate - yeah, until it cocked up once, with replays showing that the ball was fair, the machine crying it wasn't. I never heard if a reason was figured out for it, whether it was calibrated wrong or setup wrong, i dunno, but these things are all great until it makes a mistake then we're back to square one.

I can see it being an optional camera that the ref can refer to, monitored by the 4th official, but it would be a human call from replays, much like cricket and rugby, not a computer deciding to the last Nth if it crossed the line or not.

We've already taken fairplay out of the game, with half the players now considering diving and lying as part and parcel of the modern premierleague, let's not dilute it even more.

although I'm miffed about the wrongly disallowed goal - I still see no place for video replays during the game

yes to goal line technology if it can work - but even the relatively simple decision of whether the ball is over the line or not has proved to be technology-resistant up to now - I suspect even that basic level of techno-decision is at least 10 years off being introduced into club football

ive never heard of a machine to work AND THEN not work. 1's and 0's are supposed to be like 100% reliable 100% of the time.
