From Wiki:

On 1 September 2007, Freund was appointed assistant head-coach of the German U-20 team. On 5 December 2007, he was named as a new assistant to Nigeria coach Berti Vogts for the time of the African Nations Cup. He then resumed his work as assistant to German U20-manager Frank Engel. In May 2009 he finished his coaching badges and on 17 July 2009 he was appointed manager of the German U-16 team signing a two-year contract.[2] A year later he began managing the German U-17 team leading them to a runners up medal at the 2011 UEFA European U-17 Football Championship and a third place at the World Cup in Mexico. He then started working with the new generation of U-16 players.

I didn't know that!

Love the guy! I remember someone trying to interview him on the radio while he was at a Spurs game and there were gaps because he was concentrating on the game rather than the interview! :)

Both Freund and Sherwood made their playing career by how they read the game.
It's no surprise that they are considered as very talented coaches.
People need to forget the bias they had against them as players.

I think with Sherwood, a lot of folk's objections are far more basic - he got into a feud with GHodd. They need to get past that. I myself have come up against folk who have ranted that he isn't doing a good job, but when questioned on what they knew about the nature of his job and what evidence they have that he is doing it poorly, they had none, and just admitted that they didn't like him. I think we should remember that there were a lot of problems with GHodd, it wasn't just that Sherwood was an 'orrible :censored: And that, right or wrong, it does at least show Sherwood to be a strong character willing to stand up for himself and his own judgements - and, that he had been an EPL winning captain, GHodd had never won the English league either as a player or as a manager.

He has worked with the german u17 and u16 I think.
Their youth system hasn't produced a great deal, it's not like they consistently produce a caliber of player the Real Madrid's of this world crave or anything. 2/10 would not bang. Etc.

ha who would have thought back in those days that these 2 seamingly average midfield players who weren't a the club for long would go on to become important pillars at our club. It's a magical game

didn't freund win the CL with dortmund?... and I believe dortmund always had a good youth set up, so his experience (exposure) has been there - just sayin' (y)

Got a medal but wasn't in the squad for the final. One Paul Lambert dominated the midfield for them that night.

Yet Sherwood would presumably be one of the prime movers in getting him to come to the club...

I used to really dislike sherwood, especially just after he stopped playing (he would constantly snipe at us in the media), but since he has come back he seems to be a positive influence.

indeed, but winning experience in a long, top competition is something most players never experience (cracking tournament and final),... and he can share with those players under his "wing"

This is true. Also, Lambert cites Ottmar Hitzfeld as having had a major influence on him in terms of his development as a coach, so perhaps Freund benefitted similarly. He certainly seems to have done well enough for himself so far.
