If rumours about how good a coach he is with young players then we have got him in the right role.

What's the point in investing in the training facilities if we don't invest in high quality coaches at every level?

Freund might not be the right man to be a manager to assistant, no idea if he is, but we shouldn't look at this role as a demotion for him. Hopefully it's just a role that suits him better.

I'm happy he will have a clearly defined role at the Club. Remember this is a guy who is one of us fans too, he used to fly over from Germany regularly with his son, Nicklas, just to watch our games and sit amongst us ordinary fans, not in some VIP box.

I may be missing something here. Many posters are saying with his experience of coaching and developing youth players this new co-ord post is a good one. But Steffan Freund looks like he will spend more time in the air than on the training pitch. Its a step away from the daily contact with players that he has had previously. I think his desire, enthusiasm and love of Spurs will is not be best fulfilled in this role. Yes, his contacts in Germany will be good for the club. But overall I see SF as a track suited guy, with muddy boots, loving the involvement on the pitch. This new role seems to stuffy for him.

As I said, perhaps i am missing something.

Lets hope he does a better job of finding foreign loans for our kids than the last man in charge if it (Sherwood) did. Loans for Mason to Lorient, Ceballos to Portugal, Coulibaly back to Italy didn't exactly work out very well.

@pokeefe1 For all the stick he gets, the way Levy has gone out of his way to look after Freund in the last 18 months is brilliant

  2. @gstobart You don't question why? The only man to survive the reign of AVB (as if AVB wanted him?) and Sherwood. Eyes and ears. That's all

@pokeefe1 He suffered personal tragedy and they wanted to look after him. Top bloke and loves spurs too.

Does anyone know what happened to Freund? (other than having to work under Sherwood....)

Never heard that over here in Canada. What personal tragedy was suffered by the very nice man?

Top Spurs guy. Best job for him working with the younger players. Always felt sorry for him, the last 18 months

It does sound like he maybe is a bit redundant in training, but truth be told a role like this seems to suit him a lot better anyways, and I think he can flourish in this sort of a position.

I don't know, sounds like the perfect job for Freund.

He knows his football, loves the club which will show from a business side.

I think this is great news and he gets to remain with us for a long long time, promoting the club he loves to an international audience.
I agree, I think its great that an old boy with a genuine affection for the club has been given a role at the club.

Could be that we are about to see an expansion in our youth recruitment network, which isn't a bad thing.

Read the pochettino article and put two and two together like I just did.
http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/foo...ourinho-if-chelsea-finish-second-9675406.html

I also heard that one individual, whom Pochettino suspected of having what we’ll euphemistically call a ‘hotline’ to chairman Daniel Levy, found himself quickly moved a long way from the backroom operation. With Levy on the ninth manager of his 13-year reign, that was a wise pre‑emptive strike.

This sort of implies there had been an earlier incident where a confidence was broken and this individual got his reputation.
If this is Freund, you can only think he naïvely let some gossip slip out.
After all, if it was a premeditated act of treachery/evil, Sherwood would have promoted him when he was appointed....
