I would rather cut of my foreskin and feed it too my cat than see spurs sign Stephen Ireland!

As someone mentioned previously we are way above this kind of signing these days. Perhaps 5 years ago this kind of thing may have appealed but not now. The likes of QPR, Wolves etc should be in for a player like Ireland on the cheap, not us.

What was that you were saying about Stephen Ireland? He played a blinder for Villa today. Scored one and assisted Darren Bents goal in the win against Chelskum at Stamford Bridge!

That's it then, one good game in 3 and a half seasons.

Sign him up right now, whatever the price.

Sell Modric to Chelsea and do whatever we can to sign Ireland.

Ignore the lies, the laziness, the tantrums, the fights with former players, the refusing to play for the country, the bling, the mentalism, the smoking pipes, his half season of wonder in 6 years, his game against Chelsea has won me over.

What are you waiting for Levy?! Jesus wept he had a good game!! Break the bank will you!

Perhaps Ireland is the type of potential match winning player (as he did for Villa at Stamford Bridge yesterday) who will benefit from 'Arry's loving arm around his shoulder telling him how good he is. I know he can be a knob but look at all the dissenting voices who were against Gallas and Adebayor joining us and how both of the ex Gooners have reacted to Redknapp's man management skills.

Anyway the argument is academic. Mcleish won't let him leave Villa Park after yesterday's match winning display. IMHO after yesterday Stephen Ireland has cemented his place in Villa's team.

He's another one of them players with undeniable talent but with their head a million miles away, and i wouldn't blame him after the massive hype he received, followed by the plummet to warming the bench at Villa.

Strangely though, he's exactly the type of player that Harry could bring the best out of, i'm just not sure i want it to happen at Spurs, if that makes any sense?

I reckon he would've been better off going to work under Pardew at Newcastle, or Warnock at Rangers - neither of them would've taken his lazy attitude, and they have both got this mysterious ability to motivate players and get the best out of them (the fact that Warnocks actually got very little at his disposal doesn't take anything away from that, he gets a good shift out of them).

The point you seem to be missing is that his problems lay not in his ability, which is very high, but in his temperament...the type of player 'Arry seems to cope with, and get playing to the max., better than any other manager in the country. As such it was an interesting call, I don't think there was any emphatic claim that this is absolutely the player we need above all others, or anything.

Which is pretty much how I see it.
Great ability, and 'Arry loves the di Canio loon types...but SI is a severe basket case.

Played really well in the 'behind the striker' role

This is where he always seemed to flourish.

Also the type of players Harry washes his hands with. Bentley, Gio and Pav?

Which is why I have stated above, and in agreeing with RSS, that 'Arry would probably be well-advised in giving him a wide berth.
Just don't think the obsessive vitriol is necessary - if Redknapp wanted to buy him because he thought he could do something with him, I believe, based on his previous, we should all support it.

And, as I said, in my mind at least, there is little doubt about his ability - which I would consider to be better than Jenas, probably better than GDS, and certainly better suited to the EPL, and up there with Bentley's. And Redknapp has certainly given those three more than enough chances - I just don't see where folk get that from. Even the least favoured and least played, GDS, who is, after all, the youngest and leasat experienced in the EPL, got a fair amount of games and subs appearances over the whole period of Redknapp's tenure and, afaiac, has done very little with those opportunities.

The big difference is that that trio were already at the club when Redknapp took over, and Ireland isn't - which, again, is why I said he may be well-advised to pass (if we ever had any interest, which, so far, I have seen little evidence off).

You can put a turd in clingfilm though and use it as a handwarmer if you're camping in the Alps or in Arctic conditions a la Bear Grylls!

For me the only reason to put up with a potential troublemaker is if his ability is higher than what you already have. Warnock gives Taarabt a lot of leeway because he's got more skill than their other midfielders, we were right not to.

Ireland has abilty but certainly not more than Modric, VDV or Bale. No need to give the big hug round the shoulder when your team is better than him. Hughes did a good job with Ireland when he was one of their best players but once they got their money they didn't need to anymore.

Villa is probably his level.

A fair point...but he would give us something from midfield that none of our current lot give.

You can't polish a turd though.

Not quite true...fossilised droppings are often literally polished, and fashioned into amusing and unusual items.
I had/may still have a cork steet made from a fossilised jobby
