Bentley. Bought for 15m. Started badly, lost his place, lost his form, lost his confidence. Couldn't get near the team, especially since Lennon was the best winger in the league. Only 3 appearances in the league before Christmas last season. Was a forgotten man. Then Lennon got injured and was out for months and Redknapp first tried to deal with it by playing Kranjcar and Modric on both wings before finally giving Bentley a shot. He stepped up and played well in our run for Champions League football, without ever being really great.

Bale. We all know this story. Injured, not tough enough, thinking about his hair, shit defending, out of form and like Bentley only getting games in the Carling cup against Preston and Doncaster. Ekotto injured. Some fans want Bassong in LB but Bale plays and within months is all of sudden the best left midfield player in the world, the best left back in the world, etc. Is the most loved man in London.

Pav. Was almost turning into Richardo Rocha (think he was locked in his car for months, completely disappeared). There's a joke in London, Pav said in a interview, that simply goes "Redknapp is playing Pav in his starting lineup." Was linked to Birmingham and Liverpool in Jan 2009. Up 1-0 away to Wigan Pav is suprisingly thrown on late in the game and scores 2 goals. Scores 8 goals in the next 7 games (7 wins, 1 draw) and although doesn't score after that plays pretty well out the season.

Dawson. Highly critizied one season, worshipped the next. Is 3rd choice behind Woodgate and King in Redknapp's first season and considered too error prone. Starts the next season injured and when returning finds it difficult to get a game. Woodgate, King, Bassong and even Huddlestone are preferred at CB. Gets back in the side because King and Woodgate are out injured and hasn't looked back. Player of the year, wins his first cap, first defender on the teamsheet.

All of these have been players that have been wanted sold, frozen out, forgotten, called shit, linked away, almost sold and generally not considered good enough. They have had to fight their way back into the team or been given a chance through injuries and have all stepped up, delievered and helped the team. Dawson and Bale are considered among our best players today and Pav and Bentley are useful and will get more games then before and are trusted more.

Redknapp & the coaches must be praised for this and of course the players themselves. There must be something also about the whole team, the team spirit and the togetherness.

The question is and the reason for my thread is will Jenas and Hutton do something of the same? It's looking good for JJ and Hutton showed some promising signs, although it was only 45 minutes.

Yup. Kranjcar's turn now. I expect a big performance from him against the Goons.

The one I really want to break through, and will hopefully get a game tomorrow is Giovani Dos Santos. I just think he would fot into the new system and would link up well with the likes of Modric and VDV.

I'm not sure about Pav and Bentley. Neither have really done anything special, just proven to be useful squad players. Expensive ones at that.

Not only Kranjcar Kendall, but Bassong will need to fight his way back again aswell.

I guess you can add Kaboul to the list aswell.

I'd say this is why the game now is considered a squad game and not a 1st 11 team game

I thought Bentley was excellent last season. People underestimate just what he did to allow us to keep the ball so well in those final few months. Where Lennon gives you a blistering attack, he doesn't hold the ball, Bentley does and generally uses it well. He and Gudjonsen in particular were great at this, both very calming influences.

Kranjcar is technically excellent, however he is desperately slow, which then restricts where and when he should be played. The other problem he has is that he is no specialist in one set position, so can play in a variety of positions, but we have players available who are better than him in all the positions he can play and hence find himself on the periphery.

I agree. I thought he was fantastic in Modric's role from the left lat season, but with a rejuventated Bale, he's not really going to get too many opportunities now. Much like how we've sacrificed Palacios to move Modric infield to accomodate Bale.

Kranjcar will need to put in a strong showing midweek if he is to remain in 'arrington's thoughts, because he's probably at least 3rd in the pecking order for a left side role, 4th or 5th on the right and perhaps 3rd for a role behind a striker (which we're only likely to play away).

Good post. The coaching staff are doing a great job and need to be credited.

Harry's man mangement skills are quite incredible really, with any luck Dos Santos, Hutton, Jenas etc. can now step up and feel like new signings.

Kranjcar should not even be in the list. He's done nothing wrong at all, and has not been a failure. Only problem is that Bale's form has restricted him, and some funny selections from Redknapp, playing the off-form Palacios when it was Krancjar who shouldve been playing in the middle with the Hudd.

Since returning from injury, Jermaine Jenas has strung together three very good performances against Stoke away, Werder Bremen away and Wolves at home.

No-one has ever doubted his ability but now he's managing to add some much needed consistancy to his game too.

Errr..... which means he has to 'step up' and try and force a way in?

He's done nothing wrong, because he ain't had the opportunity to do so, as there are better alternatives ahead of him at the moment.

I don't think Kranky does enough to be considered a central midfield option. Am I alone in that thinking?

As a CM no, i dont think he does, but as an attacking midfielder behind the striker i think he can. Having said that I do like him on the left
