Former Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn has admitted he barely even spoke to Antonio Conte during his time at the club. Bergwijn left for Ajax this summer after a frustrating season which yielded just one Premier League start under Conte, who usually restricted the Dutchman to very brief cameos off the bench towards the ends of games.

Didn't say anything about this to the media at the time = classy, professional.

Now he's left the employer's building he's fine to vent how he wishes.

He made it clear that he wanted to leave a long time ago, so I'm not really surprised that Conte hasn't really had much time for him.
Bit harsh maybe but Conte's made his thoughts clear enough on this sort of stuff.

Sometimes a manager needs to give the cold shoulder for a player to realise they are not in his plans. That said, Stevie always gave his all when asked for it and remained professional.

Fair fucks Stevie. I can also understand Conte's desire not play him him, in regards to getting top 4. Gotta play the tried and tested in that situation. Best for all sides. Still think he's a player

Alli Gold did say that Bergie was not taking his lack of minutes positively . I saw the rudest ever post match interview with Bergie with his taciturn sour side loud and clear .

Still, it's good he's managed to get what he wants and we've got some decent money back on him. Wish him the best.

He's right though. He literally won us that game vs Leicester and his reward was a couple more cameos off the bench when the respective games were pretty much already done. All the best to him though.

I mean it's hard to be critical of the manager if the three starting players are 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the G/A in the Premier League in 2022 at the time.

He had two good games, Man City at home under Nuno and Leicester away.

You have to be able to impress for more than two games at any level, let alone under the second or third best manager in football.

Personally, I trust Conte. He's won enough trophies to know what it takes to win. He knows players and what's required to meet his standard. I liked Berwijn, but clearly not good enough for where we want to be.

I trust Conte fully on this even though I do like Bergwijn as a player and had wished he'd had a bit more of a chance.

But I am a bit worried about Conte's ability(willingness) to rotate the team. We're going to be playing a lot of games and we are looking like we have a very strong squad now but Conte doesn't have a track record for rotating players much

So what you’re saying, is, you trust Conte, but, you don’t REALLY trust Conte,?

There’s not much “slamming” and “hitting out” going on here. Plenty of journo-exaggeration and some polite straight talk from Bergwijn.

I liked Stevie but he came over at a difficult time, what with the pandemic and all, so I don't think he ever really settled.
He quite quickly expressed a desire to return home and to be honest, if we'd have had a bigger squad, I'm not sure he'd have even got the minutes he did.

As I said earlier, you either want to play for Conte and his team, or you're out on your ear and he's was probably only kept involved because of lack of options.

I still think there's a decent player there and wish him all the best for the rest of his career. I have no doubts he'll have a successful one.

I think he didn't rotate much before as he didn't trust the bench. This year we have much better depth. I'm sure he'll rotate.

I did feel that there were a few games we were up by 2 goals more at 70 minutes where Conte could've pulled Kane or Son off to reduce the chance they get injured on the run in and give Stevie some minutes. There were also a number of times Lucas came on when Stevie could have...maybe it wouldn't have been enough to make Stevie happy but there were opportunities where Conte could have reasonably given him minutes and he chose not to. Is what it is, Conte is the manager, he got us 4th, and our squad for the coming year is significantly stronger so we move forward and Stevie does too. Best of luck to him.
