...He knows what he is.

Spent the whole game trying to ruin it for fans once more. Completely killed the atmosphere on a few occasions. I know he has the stadium regs on his side... but ffs. We pay a lot of money to go to games, and people like him and his zero tolerance approach really grinds my gears.

In all seriousness, it's been a while since I sat in block 32. I forgot what a pain in the arse he is.

Just the usual, making everyone sit down. Then calling the old bill in to chuck people out who didn't straight away... Even though the whole stand was standing up.

He then stood in front of people while play was going on telling them to sit down. There was a pretty good atmosphere at the lane today. But him threatening people with expulsion completely killed it at various times. Most of the stand pretty much let him know how they felt.

I used to have a season ticket in that block... but remembered why I moved. It's a pain in the arse, you are trying to watch and enjoy the game. But throughout the whole thing you are being pestered by one steward (who his colleagues seem to treat with as much disdain as the fans do)

Rant over. It's off my chest. I just hope the people he chucked out don't get their season tickets taken off them.

Yeh it definitely ruins your experience. I always go in block 36 and they're terrible.. Is it any better in the more centrally positioned stands?

I think we have possibly the worst stewards in the league, and they all seem to be in the park lane. They do my head in, i really dont see the issue with having a stand that is allowed to stand? why do ther grounds allow it, why are away fans allowed to do it all game if they please, why are Man Utd allowed to eat in to the lower park lane just cause they wont get them to sit down?!

Yes they do bully fans, especially younger fans as they see them as easy targets and it does kill the atmosphere.

Maybe you should get a grop of those affected to individually write letters to the club, complaining. State that you understand the purpose of the rulings blah, blah, blat, but that the game is about excitement, people naturally stand up when somethingexciting happens on the pitch, this goes on all over the ground and there is absolutely no need for him to be so officious. Indeed, him standing in front of people, blocking the view for quite a few, just so he can chastise a couple of people for not sitting down fast enough, is, actually, a good reason to stand, as far as I am concerned - if you have good money and someone is blocking your view, it is either that or a refund.

It would be interesting to get a stewaard's opinion on this, or even this steward's opinion.

Honestly, one of my nephews went to a game (non-league), and had a heated but friendly argument with his best freind, stood next to him, about something that went on in the game. He got a 2 year ban for aggressive behaviour. Funnier still, one of my other nephews plays for the team - seems like the whole thing has just gone to far, and these dipsticks ruin it for everyone.

spotted that all happening in the crowd, (i'm block 31- we have good stewards!) and the whole block was standing so the steward was getting a few blokes removed, shame really as they were the source of a good few chants starting, the police involved knew the score as did the fans, the steward got told by the whole section what they though of him too.

No one was removed from the stadium for standing up yesterday. No one.

Those that were taken out by the Police were done so for chanting abuse at the steward that in my opinion crossed the line. If you're going to abuse someone who has the power to have you removed from the stadium in front of 36,000 other people you can't really complain when he has you removed.

No one is allowed to stand at any Premier League ground in the country and the stewards at Spurs are far more lenient on this matter than at almost every other ground.

Spurs don't make the laws and the stewards are there asking us to sit down to protect the license. Maybe leave off the personal abuse a little bit, huh?

... and I'm a Park Lane ST holder who'd much rather stand up than sit down.

I was in Block 45 yesterday and there was about 4 or 5 lads behind me and my Dad that weren't even watching the game, they were pissed beyond belief and all they wanted to do was shout at the away fans. The Blackburn fans weren't even a lively bunch and were just painfully watching us tear them apart, no need for it, JUST WATCH THE GAME YOU PAID MONEY TO SEE FFS.

Professional steward here, what opinion do you want to hear?

As I said in my post, we all know what the law is nad why it was brought in (or, I'd hope we do).

But how should fans react if they feel a steward is crossing the line and abusing his power? I told the story, above, of my nephew, who got into a heated debate with his best friend over something during a (non-league) match. They are mates, they were just arguing about something that happened. A steward reported him for aggressive behaviour, and he got a two year ban from the ground. It was a storm in a tea-cup - they didn't involve anyone else, they didn't resort to violence, they just raised their voices (it's passionate game, ain't it?). And yet, on a steward's say-so that he was being aggressive he can't go to the games any more - and the joke of it is, one of my other nephew's playes for the team. So, that is the first question - do stewards have too much arbitrary power?

Secondly, the specific issue mentioned by the OP was that this one particular steward decided, that the spectators needed to sit down (we all agree that sometimes when something exciting happens folk naturally stand up, and it is acceptable for stewards to ask them to return to their seats) more quickly, and he stood in front of that section of the crowd. Now, if I am sitting down and he is doing that to someone else, blocking my view for a prolonged period, having paid a lot of money to watch the spectacle, shouldn't I have the right to continue watching the spectacle even if it means standing up if my view is blocked by a steward for a prolonged period because he is being officious?

p.s. Never had any problem with stewarding myself (back in the day when I could actually go to games), just asking in an academic kinda way (y)

Sounds like the guy was doing his job. If you don't like it blame the club/FA not the poor bloke who's probably getting paid next to nothing to get abused by wankers.

Honestly though I think they're too lenient. They've been talking about this for years and the fans don't seem to care. How would we feel if we had to play a game behind closed doors because a section of the crowd persistently stood. Surely sitting down is a far better option than forcing everyone to miss a game?

I do think they handle it poorly though. If they want people to sit down they need to start with the front row(s), often people have to stand because the idiots in front of them stand so they can either do the right thing and watch someones back or stand up and see the game. If they got the first rows to sit then there'd be no excuse for the people further back. I don't mind standing when there's a potential goal but it's a bit silly when people don't sit down again after

I went for a piss just after the 2 blokes got chucked out and there were 8 policeman and 4 stewards on them. Slight over reaction I think. My seat was on the gangway so half the time when they told me to sit down, I told em I couldn't as one of them was blocking view. They didn't argue, they went on to harass the people behind me.

S3 was the Steward? Anyway, I believe he got them kicked out as they chanted, `S3, your a cnut, S3 S3, your a cnut`. I sit about 10 rows in front of them. He got the arse and then called the old bill in to back him up and get them booted out. There was only 2 guys who got kicked out but there must have been more singing the song. As they got escorted down the isle, another bunch same the same song but nothing happened to them. One more guy did get booted, he was sitting next to the exit, he must have said something to one of the old bill as they looked lived at him.

I appriciate that the stweards have a job to do but S3 seems to have a little bit of a power ego about him and has got on the fans backs on numerous occasions, not just yesterday. The other stewards who work there or have done previously have always had a decent enough relationship with the fans, even when they are asking us to sit down.

Sad really as it's more fighting amoungst ourselves rather than backing the team.

Anyway, nice to see a win, forgot what that felt like!

I think we should all just sit down and be quiet, some of those songs are just soooo rude. I stood in block 35 and its just too loud. Think i might move to the Paxton or West stand so i can have a sit down......

Seriously, how the hell are we supposed to get behind the team when we are all sitting on our arses clapping politely. People know the score, if you want to sit down and be quiet there are areas for that, but if you like singing and standing then there are areas for that. Its not doing any harm and some of the stewards are just on a power trip. God i miss the old terracing.
