When talking about trophies and a club like Spurs (or managers in the context of Spurs), the vast majority of people rightly disregard the Intertoto, Zenith Data Systems or Johnstone's Paints trophies of this world.

It leave us with the question, "how do you define 'major'?" While Intertoto, ZDS and JP would struggle to make it into the "major" box, there is no hardened definition. Harry won the Championship with Portsmouth, lets not forget that and while Intertoto is not super brilliant, it cannot be placed alongside the above mentioned cups, a middle ground if you like. Fact is, even if you take his work with Portsmouth alone, his trophies, which could easily be considered "major", simply do not add up to ONE, which is what our original poster told us for some reason.

Most fans of big clubs don't count lower division championships as major trophies either.

In a similar vein to before...............do you include Spurs' two 2nd division titles among our major honours? I know of no Spurs fan who does.

AVB may be a really nice bloke, but his style of football is very boring and unless something changes soon, i would perfer to see him gone and get someone in who can use out attacking players to there potential..

I don't think tomorrow's result will effect AVBs future but I think this next week might very well do (if that makes sense!) This time next week if we are sitting here having earned 6 points or more and had some better displays then I think the pressure will be off. Anything less than 4 points though and if the performances haven't improved then the pressure will be well and truly on him.

Yep. Losing/playing badly against United is one thing, but I really don't think there's any excuse for not performing well and (hopefully) beating Fulham and Sunderland.

Even if those games are away, they're against two teams in the bottom three. Anything less than 4 points against those two and I think AVB's days will be numbered.

Likewise.

The only grey area for me are those special games like the World Club Championship and the European Super Cup. They're prestigious, certainly. But they're just one off games (okay, World Club Championship is two games nowadays - but only one against top class opposition).

And if you include them, should you include their domestic equivalent - the Charity / Community Shield - as well?

Again, I don't. But there are some who do.

These are the real tournaments.
The top league
FA cup
league cup (only just)
European trophies, not including super cup etc.

The world club cup and the European super cup are invitation tournaments, they don't count.

The rest is bullshit isn't it?

No wonder he hasn't bothered to reply to individuals he's disagreed with.

Just spent the last 3 hours writing this.

Under AvB this season Tottenham have created more opportunities than any other team in the PL

According to 5Live, AVB was laying into Alan Sugar, accusing him of leading an agenda against him, and also The Daily Mail (Neil Easton & Martin Samuel in particular) post match.

Normally I'd expect the manager to hold his tongue, however in the case of these particular belligerents I'll make an exception.
