I think we will certainly sign a CB, back up keeper and a winger type player to upgrade and compete with Lennon and I think we will find it relatively easy to make these types of signings

What has been our major issue for years now and I think will continue to be so is our striker situation, its the one major factor holding us back still I think.

So, if you were our DOF and you had been charged with the prospect of sorting out our striking optins what would you do? (try to be as realistic as possible for the purpose of this discussion please)

I think we are all glad to see the back of Pav and I think at least one if not both of Saha/Defoe will be moved on before the start of the new season.

Ade is a difficult decision, assuming he is attainable is he the right man? and if so is he only the right man if we bring someone else in that compensate for his personal deficiencies?

Ideally I'd say upgrade on Ade with a striker who offers the qualities he does and is ALSO clinical in front of goal and perhaps has a better touch (a Berba) but realistically I struggle to think who we would be able to bring in who would do a better job than him.

so what do you think? Sign Ade? Sign someone else (if so who?)

Who to sign to replace Defoe and or Saha?

We won't be signing a player of that ilk, that's the very top end of the market - the elite.

Adebayor on a permanent would be fantastic, I don't think its a difficult decision at all if Levy can make the financials work.

Forget about Lewandowski...won't go anywhere.

If CL I would be very pleased with Soldado, Llorente or Adebayor as first choice striker and sth like Munian, Van Wolfswinkel, Lavezzi, Fletcher or Dempsey as second choice, some of them could also cover other positions.

But my personel guess is Mandzukic, wouldnt be that happy about it

Llorente? No chance!

Dzeko (loan), rodallega and Remy would be my guesses.

If we can get Ade, get him. I agree with you about wanting to have someone with Ade's all-round game yet also more of a clinical edge in front of goal. Especially for the money he's wanting. The chances of us finding one of those, who haven't already been snapped up by the usual suspects are slight though. We could do, but we'd have to sign him young and wait for him to progress over a number of yrs I think. Is that Coulibally fella in that vein maybe?

Soldado worth a try. He is a fantastic player, would fit into our squad beautifully. Nilmar has been named. Like Soldado, not a traditional target man. Not the height for it etc and isn't exactly prolific but a very good player.

I really would look at Fletcher to replace Defoe. Different strengths but would be more beneficial to us. He can play up top on his own and he is scarily efficient in front of goal.

If we managed to get Ade, Fletcher and Soldado, I'd be over the frigging moon. Unlikely we will I guess. Seems we're interested in Remy.

I really like the look of Jelavic. Think his movement has been extremely good and he's clearly a very good finisher.

I cant see them letting Dzeko out on either loan or sale, he was very important to them this season, and will be again next year when i am sure they will be much more capable in the CL.

Highly doubt Saha will be here come next summer. But I reckon Defoe will, and I'm content with him staying. I would like Ade to stay but if we can't get him, Dzeko or Llorente would be amazing!

We also need another quality striker. Damiao or Luuk De Jong possibly?

And I would like the 4th striker to be one of our younger players. I think Kane will be loaned out to Millwall again. So maybe Coulibaly will get an opportunity.

Sell Defoe, release Saha. Bring in Luuk De Jong, Ricky Van Wolfswinkel and Adebayor....
LDJ would be a cracking signing but we don't seem to rate Dutch strikers or strikers who have played well in the Eredivisie so I doubt we'll sign him. RVW was worth a look at last summer and I doubt he'll move on from Sporting so soon. Unless we overpay for him and we all know that that isn't going to happen.

Ade and Leandro - two lone forwards - one who is a great hold-up/link-up man and the other who is more of a goalscorer.

Then Remy as a RF/W and our 3rd CF.

What are Adebayor's stats for this season? 17 League goals and 12 assists or something?

That's a pretty hefty return IMO.

Regarding the main striker, it depends on what management want. A goal poacher (Huntelaar, Soldaldo) or another complete forward (Lewandowski, Adebayor, Dzeko, Llorente)

Keep Saha as third choice and sign one the of the names mentioned above.

Lavezzi's buy out clause is £24m (Euros?)

he has been wonderful for Everton

You do actually have to ask what was going on when we signed Saha from them and they signed Jelavic from Rangers

I really do question why when we have been lacking a striker for so long we have sat back and signed no one while Everton have snapped up him and Newcastle Ba AND Cisse, I mean you would have to have fancied our chances of securing any of the three ahead of the clubs they went to.....why were they not on our radar and if they were why did we just sign Saha?
