Please stop believing the premiership hype!!!!!! The league is shit for strikers at the moment. Doyle really?!??!?!? There ARE great strikers out there. Watch some La Liga or something, honestly, Doyle?!?!?!?

Only prem strikers I'd take would be Gyan or Elmander as a 3rd striker and only if they were less than 10 mill.

Elmander would be less than £10m, aproximately £10M less as his contracts up, only problem is that it looks like Juventus and Fiorentina have already made a move for him. Looks like another entry onto the 'strikers we have missed out on' list.

Pity, he can hold up the ball well , has good technique and is premiership proven. Would suit us very well with the way we play, and would help bring the likes of VdV, Lennon and Bale into play.

Not the most glamorous signing but when buying from abroad you never know whether you will get a Postiga or a Berbatov.

With regards to prices, Lisandro would likely cost a similar fee to the one he cost Lyon 2 years ago (€24m) and Lukaku would probably cost around the same. If we call both of them a combined £45m, we'd be able to almost entirely finance the deals by offloading our current batch of, in my opinion, unsuitable strikers [to the role we're asking them to carry out]. Defoe was yesterday linked with a move to City as Tevez's replacement, although a big bid from Sunderland as Darren Bent's belated replacement wouldn't surprise me. He would bring in at least £14m in the current market, while we wouldn't be able to offload Crouch (£10m), Pav (£12m) and Keane (£6m) with relative ease. Those 4 outgoings would bring in a total of £42m, which very nearly pays for us to swap our currently unsuitable front line for a hand-picked, World class solution.

Then this morning, the Telegraph pipe up with this [regarding Chelsea's interest in Lukaku]:

His club, Anderlecht, are hoping to receive €20 million (£17.5 million) but given Lukaku is understood to have just 16 months left on his contract, Chelsea are confident that they will not have to pay more than half that.

Looks like we could essentially swap Defoe, Pav & Keane for Lisandro & Lukaku... It works with the regards to the fees, it works with regards to the wages (3 high earners out, 2 high earners in). It quite simply makes sense.

You'll just have to trust ol' Chrissy on this one :hump:

Seems to be a lot of realism in this thread.

We are effectively a B-list team in a European context so our approach has to be for players who are on the bench for an A list team (see Benzema rumours circa 2 months ago) or rising stars from C-list teams (see hulk or falcao).

I reckon we'll be signing a big striker and a little one this summer. The big striker will have to have power and pace to compliment what we have so Hulk would be a good fit for the role.

I've got a feeling we might sell Defoe this year and therefore we may be in the market for Rossi again (finisher). Hope so - he's not so reliant on the vagueries of form, can be a clever player and consistently finishes well.

Interesting point, but there is another factor, we are at best a 'C-list' team when it comes to wages so it becomes harder, especially trying to get players off the bigger clubs.
