If the Suarez and Caroll transfers had come to fruition in January, we would have been a different monster altogether.

Caroll is a better man's Crouch.

Suarez has Keane's positioning and Defoe's (on a good day) finishing.

Pav is a poor man's Berbatov. First touch sucks but where do the goals come from? Astonishing.

All things said and done, i think Caroll would have benefited from our wing play.

And when Modric, VDV and THUDD decide to pass Tiki-Taka on the ground, Suarez would have been the answer.

We would have been an unstoppable monster with these two in our team.

But i still believe. In Harry in trust. I Levy i will trust if he raises the bloody wage cap!

60m is a lot to spend on two forwards if you dont have a torres to sell.

That said, I think we only really needed Carroll. van der Vaart is already our Suarez.

Gomes

Corluka Gallas Kaboul Bale

Sandro Huddlestone

Lennon van der Vaart Modric

Carroll

I personally think that'd yield our best side. Yes Bale blah blah left wing blah blah. But we looked really fucking tidy when Bale was playing left back and Modric left mid last season before Benny got back into the side and I think this team makes us more solid, whilst still maintining plenty of creativity and a beast of a striker.

Shame shame SHAME.

Maybe he should wipe his mouth then.

He missed a sitter last night.

lol people were saying in January that Carroll is shit/overrated and all that nonsense.

You don't score 11 goals in something like 15 games in the Premier League at 21 years old for a team that was in the Championship last year unless you are real quality. Even these other strikers we are talking about spending on, Cavani, Falcao, Llorente, etc, most are 24-26 and are about as impressive in their leagues as Carroll has been in the Prem. But the Prem is tougher and he is younger, I'd imagine he will become better than the others.

I still think that Carroll is an awful footballer, he does some things that cannot be explained. One example was him just booting it up field for no reason whatsover, even the commentators went silent..lol

Carroll might turn out to be England's next Alan Shearer or unfortunately like Alan Smith, time will tell.

Suarez is better than I thought he was.

I liked them both, but Carroll is more of what we needed. Suarez wasn't. I wanted Carroll before the window started, when the majotiry on here were saying no thankyou he's shit.

Infact not many on here at all wanted him to be fair.

VDV > Suarez. However tbf to Suarez he will run and run for his team. And I also wanted Carroll before the window started and was hoping we could get him for at most 20m, but as soon as Villa signed Bent for 24m, I gave up all hope.

I really like this team, I think its one of the few ways we can fit Modric, Lennon, VdV, Bale, Hudd and Sandro in the team. For me Sandro is vital as he adds more steel to the team and has very good positioning. I just don't see a mid of Modric and Hudd being strong enough against top teams. Bale will always get forward no matter where he plays on the left. Even without Carroll I feel this is the way to go till the end of the season with crouch or Pav up top.

Carroll for £35m? No thanks. I'd hope there are better options out there for that sort of money

His first goal arguably should have been saved, and I think his second was an own goal

My Liverpool supporting collegue said he was all running last night but nothing came off. I'm not saying we shouldn't have been in for him but I'm not convinced he's the goal scorer we're after. He seems far more a of the vdv mould.

Carroll would have been a good buy but without having a Torres to sell to offset the fee it was a non-starter for us.

With Villa trying to spend their way out of relegation trouble, like we did a couple of years ag,o and Newcastle being able to name their price for Carroll because it was effectively coming from Chelseas billions, Bent and Carroll are the new inflated benchmarks for for english strikers. So that's £24m and £35m for arguably limited strikers (wages not included).

Looking at imports, you've got Dzeko who cost about £27m (but is reported to be on circa 200k a week!) and Suarez who cost around £23m. It obviously takes time to adjust to the league, however much you cost, but neither have really hit the ground running.

Buying a striker seems to be an expensive business and with these kind of fees you'd have to wonder if we could afford the wages even if we had an offer accepted by a club.

We'd better get a new stadium then.

Still gutted we didn't go get Carroll. Superb striker and not really a risk as he has everything. Pace, touch, power, one of the very best in the air, great left foot and pretty good right foot, can hold it up, can dribble a little. Now that he's fit and firing again he's going to really start doing some damage, I'm glad we have the gap between us and Liverpool is all I can say.

Don't see the point of this thread.

Suarez plays in the VDV position and during January when we were supposedly looking at him VDV was our most in form player so it would have been stupid to buy a replacement for him.

Carroll is not worth 35m so that was a no goer for our business savvy chairman. He probably would have been good for us but i'm very glad we didn't blow so much money on a limited footballer who could have flopped very badly.

Carrol is a good solid old fashioned english centre forward, but i'd rather we sign someone with a bit more skill on the deck
