We need a dominant center back added before anything else. After that, a Kane replacement in case Richy doesn't come good. all the other positions help but the leveraged impact of those 2 positions is greater than any other

I've now decided our key signing - we need to go balls deep on is either Kudus or Doku. Both perfect for RWF

We persist with Richarlison to see how he does till Jan and sign Gift Orban as a rotational option

Then in January we go balls deep on Ivan Toney (if Richarlison isn't doing the bizz) and Eze who's contracts are up in 18 months

Great plan?

I really like Richy and his work rate but looking at the other premier league top sides he's not clinical enough. There were a few moments today where I thought "Kane creates a chance from that and buries it" and whilst I'm the first to say move on I don't see how he scores 15 league goals let alone more.
He works hard, he presses, his hold up game is good but he's not much of a finisher

Johnson isn’t actually that quick when he has time to think he’s shit, but his feet are unreal close control and he can beat players for fun
Wasn’t he clocked as the 2nd fastest player in the league last season.

Richarlison is going to be under a big spotlight and his goals tally will matter quite a bit. But I don't think he's helped by two wide forwards that nearly always cut back onto their stronger foot. We're never getting the ball in behind to the zone of uncertainty for him to run on to if they always cut back.

Looking at the Brentford game, if we don't go out to sign a new centre forward, then that right side of Skipp and Kulusevski needs to up its game. Is Porro an option for either of those spots? Would Gallagher and Olise be an improvement for those two positions?

And Son needs a run of form or the new captain will be our most subbed player and likely on the bench before long.

The theory from fans, and from the manager now as well, is that we replace Kane's goals in the aggregate. With Maddison off to a good start in replacing some assists. But having three misfiring forwards isn't going to get us there.

Hoping we can start seeing some movement out from this coming week. Apart from getting someone in for Kane, can't see how we can currently add more players. Two and a half weeks left of the window and expecting a lot of activity, majority of it outgoings. With no European games this season, really need to see this as an opportunity to trim the squad and get our house in order.

ITKs have said we want as many as 7 out.

You would guess Lloris and Hojbjerg are amongst those 7.

Sanchez looks like he suits the system so that must put Dier on the exit ramp (if we were to choose).

Regulion and Spence are probably both on that list.

Ndombele surely must also be.

That’s 6. Can’t see us moving on Davies. So struggling to see a 7th easily. Maybe one of our 4th choice goalies?

There are 36 players in the squad numbers list just released, which includes some young fellas
The outs you list plus Tanganga might make for 7 outs.

It looks to me like priority outgoings are Ndombele, Lloris, Hojbjerg, Reguilon, Spence, Tanganga. Probably time is up and a couple are known to fancy a move.

Then there's uncertainty for various reasons around Dier, Perisic, Gil, Lo Celso?

ANd if we planned to bring in three more, the message from Ange of getting guys out is very welcome alright.

Think we need 4. CB, Striker, RW, DM. But we need to see some more outgoings starting immediately. Im liking this new era. Ange has a clear idea. Just unfortunate that we're likely to leave him 1 short. DM is probably the least of the needs at the moment as Skipp can cover for Bissouma so I'll hope it's that one.

I agree with that asessment. However I can't see how that happens unless we spend a lot of money

There's already signs of young, exciting players coming through again - reminds me of 2015/16. Plus they don't feel like punts, not that there'd be anything wrong if they were - just that they're international youth regulars and youngsters I can see getting chances in the first team, something we've not had in a while.

Our forward line will feel like it's missing something, because it is, until we have a new talisman. But I'm very excited. Maybe another slick operator in midfield cos Maddison's already clearly essential and we don't really have a backup for him. Maybe a pure DM if we don't think Skippy's the man. Obviously a forward's needed, not to displace Richy, just for options.

Players I'm certain will be part of something special: Udogie, Romero, Emerson, Sarr, Bissouma, Maddison, Bentancur.

I hope to add to that list as the season goes on. I think I will.

Yup. Think we're really moving in the right direction for the first time I can remember.

I'd like to think we'll be able to add VDV to that list soon too, and I wouldn't rule out Lo Celso coming good.

Shows where we need to strengthen though, as you say.

Add a couple of pacey goal threats to the squad, and it's a genuinely exciting prospect.

What about Wilfried Gnonto? Should be easy deal to do at around 20mil? Is he too similar to Solomon?

Seeing people here saying we need four or five new signings this window. It’s difficult to see that as realistic, particularly if looking at non-homegrown targets.

We are allowed 17 non-homegrown players over the age of 21. By my reckoning we have 20.

So for one non-homegrown incoming we need four more outgoing. Possible candidates are:

Lloris - almost certainly going
Reguillon - should be saleable but a discouraging injury record
Diet - with only one year left on his contract holds all the cards
Sanchez - probably a keeper
Hjolberg - saleable but with Bentacur injured can we afford to lose him?
Ndombele - who is going to match his wages?
Gil - saleable but currently injured and I would quite like to see him in Ange’s system.

We also have 9 over 21 homegrown first team squad players. Of those Davies, Skipp, Maddison (obviously) and the keepers look like they are staying (though we might get away with not registering the injured Whiteman). That leaves Spence, Tanganga, White and the injured Sessegnon as potential outgoings. So there’s more scope to bring in additional homegrown reinforcements.

However we also have two U21s who are established first teamers and others on the fringe of the first team, including two new signings who are unlikely to be loaned out.

So even if we succeed in whittling down to 17 non-homegrown over 21s and 8 homegrown that still leaves a 27 man squad, plus fringe players. Even allowing for some medium term injuries that is still a lot, particularly with no European football.

So in summary we need to unload five players before we can sign anyone, and four of these need to be non-homegrown for us to sign an additional homegrown player. And that still leaves a huge squad.

By my reckoning of Postecoglou's thinking, his squad looks as follows:

Goalkeepers x3

Fraser Forster (Home grown)
Guglielmo Vicario
Brandon Austin or Alfie Whiteman (Home grown)

Leaving - Hugo Lloris, Alfie Whiteman or Brandon Austin

Defenders x8

Ivan Perisic
Ben Davies (Home grown)
Davinson Sanchez
Cristian Romero
Pedro Porro
Emerson Royal
Ryan Sessegnon (Home grown; Injury may prevent a move this window)
Mickey van de Ven
Destiny Udogie (under 21)

Leaving - Eric Dier, Sergio Reguilon, Japhet Tanganga, Djed Spence, Brooklyn Lyons-Foster

Midfielders x5

Giovani Lo Celso
Yves Bissouma
James Maddison (Home grown)
Rodrigo Bentancur
Oliver Skipp (Home grown)
Pape Matar Sarr (under 21)

Leaving - Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele, Harvey White (could be kept around as home grown)

Forwards x5

Son Heung-Min
Richarlison
Manor Solomon
Dejan Kulusevski
Bryan Gil (Injury may prevent a move this window)

Leaving - Troy Parrott, Alejo Véliz, Dane Scarlett (I'd expect 2 of the 3 to go on loan)

So that's 21 senior players + Udogie and Sarr, of whom 6 of the senior players are home grown - we can name a senior squad of 23 with 6 home grown players in it, so that would leave room for 2 new senior players signed from abroad/not trained in the English league system.
