I still want an attacking mid that can play deep. Eriksen has done it, but is still too lightweight there.

This. Eriksen in CM3 doing the 8/10 hybrid thing is fine, but we play a cm2 most weeks and I don’t want him spending 70% of games as a water carrier for less talented and influential players.

Ever Banega would've filled the deep lying playmaker role. Wonderful eye for a pass, dictates the tempo and loves a tackle. Alas, at 29 I think a certain non starter.

If Bale becomes available in the summer all of the top sides will want him and we just cant pay the wages they can.
Our model is to find the next young Gareth Bale and develop them.
Yes and no.

Spurs (ENIC and Levy) really want to make the transition to the new stadium spectacular - imo. They are aware of the pricing issues (and knew that it would be an issue before they ever announced it publicly). They want people excited going to the new stadium - figuring, once you get hooked, annual re-newals will be much easier.

It has been hinted for a while, that we may make a big signing - one that the average fan, and Rose, will not have to google. Bale is certainly at the top of that list - but I suspect that comes down to Poch's comfort level with Bale fitting into our tactics - high press, and tracking back for the AMs.

I also believe that Poch's goal is to win the league, and to win CL with Spurs. I don't think those are pie-in-the-sky goals - I think those are legitimate targets to Poch and many of the players, and we need a slightly deeper (quality) squad to make that happen. So, I could see us buying an established player who plays at that level, rather than just buy young potential (I think we will also look for potential players, but not exclusively).

If Spurs are refusing to pay Toby £180K a week there is no way we will pay whatever Bale will want. I believe he signed a new deal at RM last year or the year before and is on £350K after tax.

My limited understanding of Toby's situation is that we would have paid £180/week...but drew the line at the inclusion of the low buy-out clause, that effectively put as in a bad spot if another team came along.

And, we don't know what Bale would demand to come back to Spurs. He would be highly compensated, but might take less to come back to England to play and/or we may get some deal with Madrid paying a portion of his wages for the next couple of seasons.

Based on what has been reported - we can get him, if we want, and this is more down to whether we want from a tactical point - and whether we want to eat up that much of the transfer budget and wages on a single player.

I disagree regarding Toby's wages where the reports I've read indicate we won't offer him more than £120K a week or thereabouts. The low buyout clause may still come into it nevertheless.

RM would demand a transfer fee for Bale which I guess would be around the £50+ plus mark but can't see they would agree to any deal to subsidise his wages and surely he would not accept 50% less wages to come back to England?

Regardless coupled with his poor injury record at RM and us having the highest paid chairman in the league (even before the latest increase to his wages) who maintains a strict wage structure at Spurs that results in players eventually leaving/being sold; i can't see it happening but we shall see.

Lol no chance they take a £35m hit on what they paid for Bale when fees have increased massively since 2013. They'll want what they paid for him at least IMO.

We’ve been told over and over and over that we’re changing our wage structure this summer and that we’ll be strengthening the squad.

As ITK has alluded to this could be a busy summer. We’ve a fantastic 1st XI and some very strong squad players but we still lack quality in depth in a couple of key areas. Football is a squad game these days and given the gulf between 2-4 and Man City, the only way we’re going to close the gap and challenge them is if we strengthen the squad.

With regard to Toby we’ve also been told it’s not about the money, he wants trophies... despite that being feasible with us he’s coming across as wanting trophies guaranteed with little to no effort required (PSG, Bayern, Juventus, Barca, Man C etc).

Yes Bale’s on insane wages but we’re assuming he’ll want equally mad wages to return to the EPL. Look at Rooney at Everton, still on good money but not at the level he was receiving at Man U.

ITK is ITK and whilst I hope its true I guess lets wait and see what happens in the summer. I'm concerned if we soon don't paying our top and loyal players what they are worth they will seek pastures new likes other before them.
