Not knee-jerk as this is something observed over previous seasons and in recent weeks.

We desperately need a big game player, someone who knows what it takes, someone who can calm the players a bit or lift them once we need some urgency.

We also desperately need to upgrade the full back positions. Davies and Trippier are fine players but neither have the athleticism or final quality to really hurt and stretch teams.

If we focus purely on young players we will eventually get left behind when the other big clubs come and start poaching them. It's no good to us if we bring in players only to lose them a couple of years later when they realise we can't win stuff.

Buy some winners, Levy!

We ABSOLUTELY have to buy a top class CM. We lost that game in the midfield. Ship out Dembele and Sissoko and get two of these guys.
CM SHORTLIST (PICK 2):
KOVACIC 45m / NDOMBELE 35m / DIAWARA 40m / AOUAR 30m (Able to play as an AM as well) / RABIOT 55m (PSG unlikely to sell) / MEYER (Free) / CEBALLOS 30m / AMIRI 15m (release clause)

Another example today of why the Zaha links won't go away, you may not rate Zaha but we need someone with that skill set. The ability to beat a man and force double teams thus creating space for others.
Moura will be that player in time I feel.

We really need a CM who can get the ball into the attackers quicker.

For all of Dembele's strengths he isn't a player who creates or dictates, he mostly just bosses the midfield and that can be good but not really affective when you need a goal and the opposition just sit in defence.

CM was without question our biggest problem today. No change of pace and a complete lack of ideas. It has to be our number one priority in the summer.

Maybe not just the "Dembele replacement", possibly two proper signings to strengthen the area.

Agreed. It needs to be two.

If I had the choice I'd have a creative player who can play CM and in Eriksen's position too. I'd then have a player more in the mould of Dembele but someone is a little more creative. I'd also like to see Onomah in his natural position.

I guess I'm asking for too much and probably being unrealistic though.

We can easily save some money from selling players and use it to buy a big player.
KWP for Trippier is an example, we can get around 15-20 for Trippier and replace him for free.
We can also trust Onomah/Winks or trust Eriksen as a CM and sell Dembele but that’s a risk.
Sell Janssen, Nkoudou and Llorente and replace them with academy players since they didn’t play much anyways.

With this we can save at least 45M and replace them for free and then we can spend that money on a big player/ multiple good players

Possibly but every time he plays he never plays out wide, he always cuts inside.

It's as if no one is allowed to attack the wide areas (especially in a losing situation) except for the full backs or Son when he plays from the left.

Everything is pushed into the centre, they don't realise their taking the bait again and again.

As has been said before, we probably should look at a 3-man midfield.

I would be pushing hard to bring Modric back plus an understudy personally.

Totally agree.

Modric kills two birds with one stone - a winner and that creative player who will dictate play, then perhaps someone like De Jong or Maddison.

I think summer window is a "now or never" window. We must take some gamble like Bale, for example.

Todays game shows that kids like Sessegnon, or the ones from Ajax, wont help us winning trophies.

Bringing back our Real Madrid boys would put us over the top and able to compete for trophies and actually win them. Buying from Ajax, Atalanta, etc. isn't going to get us there next season.

Did we previously have info that Modric would be open to coming back?

I'm tempted to pass on him too. I'd rather go out for a true 'wing back' who may be a bit cheaper - (if Tierney has what it takes then that could be a better option).

Not trying to be a dick, but @Bus-Conductor, myself and others have been banging on for three years now about how our CM position needs to improve and that Dembele, albeit class at times, is not as dynamic as some people make him out to be. CM and WB positions are our biggest need.

Why would Modric come back? There surely are other teams interested who are better than us. We need creative cm and someone with pace and ability to take 1vs1, we've known that for ages. And as before, I wouldn't be surprised if nothing happens.

We had ITK that he is open to coming back. Obviously that gets tested once other clubs become interested but we should be trying IMO.
