IIRC, wage structure was changed maybe 1 or 2 or even 3 seasons ago.
No absolute wage cape on individual level, but an overall cap on the total wage expenditure, with room for various ways to spend the total allocated funds.

Agreed.

I hope we replace one of Mason, Carroll and Bentaleb. I have no preference between them, but one must leave to make room for somebody we will actually be able to use.
Absolutely, the wages are flexible, but must remain cognizant that if we're to break bank it's probably to keep players (Kane, Alli, Lloris, Alderweireld, etc.) and have them be the big earners of 100k+ instead of a fresh signing.

I know some of the comments here have been tongue and cheek about the likes of Hazard and some others, but I do worry some actually aren't joking and seriously think that it's somehow a possible acquisition. It's not, for numerous reasons.

I don't think there's anyone we can buy who will get into the starting X11 come first game of the season next season. Who on earth would you replace? It's about buying players who will fight for a place in the team. Basically back ups at right center back, center mid and center Fwrd.
That's it

I think the whole 'starting X1' idea is a bit outdated now. The rotation of our fullbacks this year worked extremely well and I think that lack of quality was the only reason it wasn't used in other areas. Walker, Rose, Trippier and Davies all seem happy enough with it so we could surely make it work elsewhere. If we could get players like Batshuayi and Ousmane Dembele for example and use them either as starters or replacements in pretty much every match I think we'd have a seriously powerful match day setup. At the moment, seeing Kane go off and Son come on is a bit 'meh', but Michy off the bench at 60 minutes? I could live with that. Harry off the bench at 60 minutes and champing at the bit would frighten the fuck out of most teams. Dembele sharing duties with Eriksen would be very exciting.

With CL almost in the bag there will be plenty of opportunities all round and I hope we bring in some quality. The Dortmund 1st leg showed up our weaknesses.

Player power always wins. He's already pretty much said he wants to leave at the end of the season. 40 mill or an unhappy player, we know the outcome.

Not any more. Look at our pursuit of Schneiderlin and Berahino. Small clubs can be much more resolute these days. Players leave on the club's terms, or not at all.

Ever since ENIC took over the wage cap has been 55% of turnover.

The good news is that the club isn't going to follow the doing nothing approach being advocated by some and in Pochettino's own words they will look to strengthen via transfers based upon the shellacking the squad was given against Dortmund.

It's not doing nothing. It's organic growth. Our young players get better. Son, Njie, Bentaleb and Mason contribute more because they've settled in/aren't injured. 2CV, Onomah and Winks become more involved. We get a full pre-season with Poch without the usual intense disruption

Throwing money around on ill-suited big-ego players is what is actively making Man U, Chelsea and Man C regress.

Dortmund are in the top 5 teams in the world, so that game's not really a useful benchmark, except of where this group of players could be in 2 years time.

If Leicester didn't go out and take a risk by buying both Kante and Okazaki, they'd nowhere near the title right now, either. .

£12m combined (Kante £5m, Okazaki £7m).

Kante was meant to be Inler's understudy, as Cambiasso left them to go to Greece

Yep, I would personally though be very cautious buying any Leicester players from this team with the possible modifications exception of Mahrez. They have all performed really well this season, but playing a very distinctive brand of football. Split this team and they may well all be shadows of the players they were playing this season. Think Pochs Southampton, but in leicesters case probably less individual quality.

Spot on!

Just look at their defenders. Huth, Morgan and simpson are bang average as individuel players. But together they are fantastic. Put one of them into another team and they probably wouldn't shine as they do now

so can someone tell me why batshuayi - a player everyone says we absolutely must sign - is currently being kept out of the marseille lineup by steven fletcher?

I've already asked the question in this thread and it's been answered. Basically, the manager's a **** and every hates him and his stupid decisions.

I hope we replace caroll with a good defensive minded midfield player. Maybe we can try for Kovacic since he is rotting in Madrid bench.
Isn't Kovačić more like Dembélé than Dier? We'd be looking for someone who can replicate Dier's role in the team, I would have thought.

Pretty sure Kovacic is not defensively-minded at all.
