Found this nice profile of Batshuayi from today: http://www.goal.com/en/news/11/tran...b-squarepants-fan-europes-elite-?ICID=HP_FT_1

This is interesting as well:

Told Lille's Sofiane #Boufal '70% likely' to move to English club. Man United, Liverpool and Spurs interested. Believe Inter another option
I get the feeling Boufal might be our 2nd choice if we can't persuade Ousmane Dembele we're his best option. Only a hunch though.

Yes, but the more important thing is the fact wages are recurring yearly. Not your net spend for one single year.

You can argue higher net spend, that's fine, it's a one year hit and you figure out a way to solve it. You can't simply put wages under the rug.

I agree. But you can sell players like Carroll and/or Chadli and use the incoming cash (and salary savings) to put toward bringing in better first-team starter quality. And there is all that extra TV money that the Club can access.

Totally agree with you there.

Don't care about "declaration of intent" signings though. I just want good players. Dele Alli was a declaration of intent because of his talent, not because of his prestige or pricetag.

A budget is a budget.

A healthy wage budget is typically around 60% of your earnings. This goes for the big clubs as well as the small.

If you're offering big contracts somewhere then you're making cuts somewhere else. That's simply how it works.

Going against that is incredibly dangerous and as we've seen with other clubs it eventually explodes in your face if you don't respect it.
It's not a zero-sum game. The crux of the issue is that revenue is absolutely exploding.

I read somewhere that next season once the new TV deal has gone into effect, that every club in the PL will be among the top 25 revenue-generating clubs in world football. Now admittedly I haven't gone and double checked whether that is entirely accurate, but the fact that it seems plausible at first glance is a testamanet to just how much money is flowing into the league.

That's why the Swanseas and West Hams can pay £100k+ without putting the clubs' finances at risk, and it's why we can too.

Berahino plays up top in a 4-4-2, but not a lone CF like we use.
He has primarily this season, but last season most of his games at a striker were as a lone striker. There was a debate about this last summer, and the exact numbers are on here somewhere, but I can't be bothered to look them up.

And besides, if he's playing up top in a 4-4-2, that does not make him a WF at all. You've provided evidence against your own point.

How many players can you afford to pay those wages though?

What do you do when the players you already have, like Kane ask for those wages and you can't give it to them because you splurged it on signings? Signings who may be wank and not even work out.

We've already been a high revenue generating club in the world. Our wage bill is still reflective of that.

Kane is reportedly being offered a new contract for those wages. I've never suggested we should hand them out flippantly, but for the right signing it's perfectly feasible.

I expect our wage bill dropped quite a bit when Kaboul, Capoue, Stambouli and Paulinho left. We will also (at last) have Adebayor off our backs so there's a bit of room there to improve existing contracts. The new TV money is massive considering that we probably need 3 signings max and can probably lose a couple of fairly high earners to compensate. Some clubs will be splashing cash all over the place but I don't expect us to be one of them.

I'm watching PSG vs Rennes.
Dembele is younger, but I think I prefer Boufal. Dembele offers pace, Boufal dribbling which is what we are missing

http://www.squawka.com/news/batshuayis-priority-is-to-join-tottenham/657341?

Greg Stobart (who now works for Squawka) did a Q&A today, which involved discussion about our transfer plans. We want 3 players apparently.

He says Batshuayi is 'very, very close'.

Apparently Poch came to the realisation that our midfield options weren't good enough after the Dortmund game- Stobart says we want another 'powerful' midfielder. Also says that Bentaleb will leave :(

He also says we want another attacking player- I guess that is someone like Boufal or Dembele.

On contracts, he says Hugo, Kane, Jan, Eriksen and Lamela are all in discussions over new contracts- Eriksen has 'verbally agreed' a new one and he reckons now that Poch is staying, he will sign it very soon.

Dembele just has that appreciation of space that very few players have - like Alli he knows where to be and when to arrive there. He could be 15 plus goals a season player. I'm just not sure Boufal would do that in the PL, even though I like him.

Spurs also miss pace up front (which is obvious), which make Spurs less effective on counter attacks. Lamela can dribble and so can Eriksen, Dembele, Alli and, for a CF, Kane ain't a bad dribbler either.
But most of all Spurs need some added goals up front. Lacazette seem the be a combination somehow of Boufal and Ousmane.

Between dembele or boufal..it's got to be dembele, much higher ceiling, more of a threat and probably much easier to coach in the poch mould. Also, he appears to be one of those players who can become one of the best in the world, imagine that?!
