Gabriel Barbosa

Obviously no idea what his mentality is like and at the risk of seeming an FM fanboy, this kid does actually look a really good prospect. Plays wide and through the middle, power and technique and a cool finisher. Definite echoes of Aguero in his younger days.

Given the state of the Brazilian economy currently the clubs won't be able to charge the earth like they were a couple of years ago I'd have thought.

Probably unlikely I know and I'd always thought he was just another in a long list of overhyped 'New (X)!!!" Brazilians, but I hope we're watching this guy. His stats aren't so impressive that he'd be a fast track to Barca/Real type either.

Became a club legend for us on my Fm15.

If we stand still now we're going to be trounced. Everyone around us will improve and next season is going to be incredibly hard.

City, Liverpool and United spent huge sums last season and went backwards. Throwing vast sums at the market in the short terms does not automatically translate into success. What we need is a smart window like the one we had last summer and that does not necessarily mean high profile big money signings ( something we have a terrible record at).

There is no point in dreaming about incomings as the previous poster said. We will only buy using moneys from sales, and as there will be next to no sales, we won't buy, however much we need to.
Tbf - 1. £12m from Townsend in January. 2. Would Poch say that he would sign a contract without having funds available.

1, 12mill gets you jack shit: 2, Poch has come out and said its going to be a tough few years for us with the stadium finance. I.e not much money to spend

Agreed. The point I'm trying to make though is that it adds to our net spend. Also Poch is ambitious. Whilst he won't want to spend shed loads, he will still want funds available. I believe that there is a kitty of £20-30m.

There's been much talk of providing a back-up to Alderweireld and/or Dier and one player has come to my attention that might fill that need. Bjorn Engels.

Here's a YouTube clip:

The 21 year-old plays for Club Brugge in Belgium and is a monster at 1.93 m. A really interesting stat is that he's scored 10 goals for his club in 50 games.

Word is that Engels has been earmarked by Belgium manager, Marc Wilmots, as a potential replacement for Vincent Kompany in the Belgium squad for the 2016 Euros.

I've not seen him play. It would be terrific if someone that has seen him play could comment on this player.

Please stop it! Please! All this about we don't have money to spend, and won't do that until we sell, and quoting Poch out of context. Nobody is going to let me believe we will not be spending within our remit. There is no way Poch would of signed, or on the verge of signing a new contract if this was not in place. Enough now.

Bentaleb likely to go too and, possibly, Mason may decide to go to Bournemouth if we indicate we are willing to let him.
Wouldn't sell Bentaleb unless he has an attitude problem. Can be a really good player for us. Mason could go and start in a few prem teams, and may want to do that. Think we will buy a CF, a CM and a young defender as Toby cover. That will be that

You would like to think there would be more than that if as the itk suggests that we are interested in a forward like MB and a midfielder such as OD, then thats surely the best part of nearly 40 million gone already.
We have to look to spend a healthy but not silly amount in order to stay amongst the pack, especially as the caravaners from the east end are saying today they are bidding around 25 million for a striker, i would be pretty pissed if we couldnt at least match them.

I don't doubt that we will spend money this window, when you factor in the extra revenue from TV, shirt sponsors and especially the financial benefits that will come with our success this year. Of course we having to be careful with our spending due to the stadium, but I doubt Levy would have planned the financing of it on us achieving top 4 never mind top 2/3 with a run for the title(which entices better sponsorship deals, see our rumoured deal with Nike for that). It would have been too big of a gamble for him probably. Granted, with all the new contracts we given out this year we will have a significant jump in the wage bill.

Also, with our squad seemingly so close to greatness it would be foolhardy to rest on our laurels this transfer window, especially considering we will have CL football to compete in.

And no way Pochottino would say we are looking to buy players this summer we've got loads of money and are ready to spend it, which I suspect is the case.

We signed Alli the window before (January) and he was training with us 1 day a week all last spring when he was on loan at MKD

Alder was the only first 11 signing we made last summer.

Similarly Leicester's only one was Kante.

What has one first 11 signing got to do with anything? We're talking about summer transfer targets here, that includes squad players. Again most of us are in agreement that our first 11 could win the title next season as it is. The problem becomes when players get injured or suspended our squad is pretty light on the ground. Frankly the only non-first 11 players that i'm truly comfortable with right now are: Son, Wimmer, Trippier, Davies and Vorm. Which IMO leaves the following squad positions to look to upgrade on:

RCB, DM, CM, AM/LW, ST

I expect us to get in 3 of the above 5, which would give us a very strong (not quite perfect) squad.
