Let´s take a look at Pochettino´s signings:

2015/16:
Son
Alli
Toby
Trippier
Wimmer

2014/15:
Davies
Vorm
Dier
Fazio
Stambouli

We can discount Stambouli, Fazio and Vorm (I don´t think they were his signings and he didn´t know the squad).

_Everyone_ else is young, Toby being the oldest at 26, who also has experience. Alli close to 100 games in the league, Wimmer playing 30+ games in the Bundesliga, Trippier playing almost every game for Burnley, etc. Berahino, who we missed, also played a lot and is young.

I think we will pursue the same strategy the next window. What we should - realistically - be looking for are players less than 23 years who have played a lot of competitive games the last couple of years and have shown great potential.

Manchester United had "a rule" during Alex Fergusons´s reign that they wouldn´t sign a player 27+ years (Nistelrooy being the most famous exception). Axel Witsel is 27 years old and if Tottenham sign him there is a risk it would be his last contract, there is no sell-on value. I think we can discount pretty much everyone older than 24, Toby being an obvious target anyway because of our defensive problems.

I don´t think this summer will be very exciting. We will sign a couple of players from down the league, recommended by Pleat, hoping for the new Alli. Then we will sign a midfielder and a forward aged 19-23, Berahino, Batshuayi, Tielemans or someone similar.

Just imo, but signing Batshuayi and Tielemans would be pretty exciting.

There are some really good posts on here, especially those around detailed rotation and playing time.

However I'd like to add another perspective and that is simply:

"who can cut it at champions league level?"

I'm not saying we need a team full of Harry Kanes, but for me there are several players that simply cannot cut it even at the squad level when we look towards next season and champions league.

The can't cut it players for me are: Carroll, Clinton and Fazio.

I don't think we need to replace Carroll as we have Mason who could play a lot more games for us next season.

I do think we need a new CB to replace Fazio, personally I would look for a cheap player towards the end of their career is who is happy with only the occasional appearance but who can still be relied upon defensively.

I think replacing Clinton could provide us with a serious edge in attack that we've missed a bit this season and will take some pressure off Kane.

Then we need a ST as backup to Kane and a DM as backup to Dier.

So for me 4 players in total, but 3 if them to be fringe/rotation players costing max. £8m each.

Spend £20-25m on Clintons replacement and for me that would be a perfect summer.

as he hasn't really had the chance this season due to injury, don't you think he should be given a chance?

It's not about buying squad players, but spending £50m on a player who plays in the same position as our brightest young talent is mental. We need to be smarter than other, richer clubs. And that ain't smart.

I'd never pay 50m for the player. All I said was it would be great to have Barkley too. He could easily replace the Moose in a few years.
You could play both IMO.
For me it's about building a strong squad. You could rotate both or play both.
Either way it was a suggestion and said it would never happen.
It would be a good problem to have.

That all depends on Barkley's potential. If he matures into the superstar he could be then it's not a dumb move.

Personally I think Barkley could play as a forward or midfield player.

Berahino still? Nooooooo

Not only is he not as good as is being made out (for the cost, irrelevant of the contract situation) but we should be aiming higher.

Lacazette and Dembele are surely on the radar? It's going to be a weird window that's for sure. We are in a similar boat to the goons really. There aren't any glaring positions we are requiring first team players but rotational squad players are what's needed but obviously with the required quality to improve on chadli, mason, Carroll etc

True but on the basis on watching the kid play and how Poch has turned Alli into a star I think he can make a difference to this side, one to watch out for next season.

I don't give all the credit to Poch for Alli being a star, the lad was a stand-out player in league 1, and has come into the premier and continued.

I think we have lots of very nice technical players and thats the best basis for us going forward, but someone who can cause mayhem with their dribbling at speed and committing defenders wouldn't go amiss, someone who also scores goals of course.. frankly someone also likely to win freekicks around the area for us. Seems like we've been linked with some of those sorts playing in France. I don't see we have anyone like that currently, not sure N'Jie is quite that mould though he hasn't been seen a great deal yet?

From the brief appearances njie has made, he does not look like the tricky, quick dribbler we all crave I'm afraid. Not sure where he fits in tbh

The Leicester lb? No idea, isn't he 17 or something

Why should we consider him when we have KWP?

If comes back to your wanting players with pace. Barkley operates best when he has space to work with and drive into on a counter, when he has to work against teams sitting back he's largely ineffective at the moment.

Teams don't give us space. Most of the games I've watched this season involve us having to break down solid banks of players sitting deep.
