think we played really well 2nd half, last 15mins we were far too deep but still created the better chances even during this period, Walker was MOTM by a country mile and honorable mentions also must go to Naughton who kept possession well and moved the ball and Capoue who i think it better suited to centerback than midfield

We deserved the 3pts but should have won by 2 or 3 goals.

Kudos to the defense as no Verts, Kaboul, Chriches or Rose and they were solid at the back. Loris made one mistae but otherwise seemed in control. I am wondering if he is second guessing himself on coming out every now and again.

Dembele great in the mid and good sub to bring in Sandro to keep that strength. Lennon immense on the wing and Chadli good but not spectacular.

Holtby busy up front. Defoe had a good game for me but loses points for no scoring some great chances made by the wing backs.

On the fence for AVB subs - Sandro needed for Dembele. Townsend on left worked but Siggi offered nothing for me.

We will need to continue to improve when we beat Liverpool next week.

I'm more than happy with 2 come from behind away wins

We're still not playing as well as I'd like but we needed a reaction to the Man City loss and we've won 3 games and drawn at home to Utd since then

With Chelsea and City (and Southampton) dropping points today and Arsenal and Everton playing each other tomorrow we've at least made some ground back against those above us and we have a home match against a direct rival up next which we simply have to win

Liverpool are flying, we're faltering but that is the type of game where the players have to step up and put our opponents in their place if we want to be a CL outfit next year

hmm.... guess people disagreeing with me?

strange, for 10mins we had 90% of the ball and were passing it around waiting for Sunderland to do something...

wake up peeps! we needed an own goal, to beat the team ROCK BOTTOM of the league!!! we didn't take the game to sunderland, we didn't kill them off.... if that is good enough, i am worried.

Please play the kids and fringe players against anzhi please- Liverpool at WHL next week is huge and need everyone fit and fresh. Still right in there with a team that is surely going to keep getting better

We've already qualified as top of the group, so hopefully he won't. Absolutely nothing on the line for that match.

Great win but we really should've won by a larger margin. Sunderland were absolutely clueless, Altidore is a joke of a player.

Much more confident for the Liverpool game now....if we continue on in the same way...
Definite green chutes going forward.

Townsend left, Holtby buzzing in the middle and credit to the two Kyles who both had their best games of the season.

If we can get Jan, Rose and Chiriches back for the 'pool game then we can go in with plenty of confidence.

Walker is still coming on really strongly, eh? Another excellent day for him. Dembele and Paulinho also played really well.

Fair play to Naughton. No complaints about his play today.

Also big ups to Capoue. First time to play CB this season and performed admirably.

Big 3 points....now bring on the Pool!

Yes he has played very well last few games and its no coincidence that has been when Lennon has been back into the side.

Responses to some previous posts:

A negative manager is Sam Allardyce or Alan Pardew - have you watched West Ham and Newcatsle of late?

We sit deep because we have the lead and the team trains for it, we try to pick teams off on the break. Would you prefer a team lacking in confidence continue to attack and give up a sucker punch on the break?

We created some great chances from open play and while it was only Sunderland it is evident what the long term picture will be for this team.

While DL and JL might have doubts about the manager there is no indication that the players do not believe in AVB.

Lewis Holtby is an important player and the way he got the players together at the end of the game shows how important a player like him is to a team.

We may have found another classy centre back in Capoue..

No, don't give AVB ideas. He's already playing one of our best players out of position so often it's pissing said player off, we don't need to do that with two of our players.

Happy with that. Ground out a well dederved win and played much better in the 2nd half.

Townsend has to play left wing for me. It's a no brainer.

I must say, funny how effective Townsend was playing on the left,....
a much more "natural" fit I'd say...
