BBC Live Text
15:07 GOAL - Swansea 0-1 Tottenham - Jan Vertonghen (7 mins)
What a goal! Rampaging forward like the sweepers of old, Mathias Sammer or even Franz Beckenbauer would be proud of this one as Spurs centre-half Jan Vertonghen carries the ball out from the back. He plays the ball in to Gareth Bale and then continues his run into the area. Bale flicks the ball over the top for the Belgian, who kills it with a great touch before stabbing into the net. Wonderful stuff.
15:20 GOAL - Swansea 0-2 Tottenham - Gareth Bale (21 mins)
This is just brilliant. As the song goes, he scores when he wants doesn't he? Quality again from Jan Vertonghen as he steps out of defence to mop up an errant ball forward, he then picks out Gareth Bale on the edge of the D and Bale nonchalantly, almost arrogantly, flicks a shot into the top corner. Michel Vorm did not move in the Swansea goal. Bale is on fire.
HALF-TIME Swansea 0-2 Tottenham
16:19 SUBSTITUTION - Swansea 0-2 Tottenham
Spurs make a change up front as Jermain Defoe comes on in place of Emmanuel Adebayor. Who has been, well, terrible today.
16:20 YELLOW CARD - Swansea 0-2 Tottenham
Ouch. Ouch indeed! Michu has his eyes on the ball all the way as he runs on to a raking pass but he doesn't half clatter into Scott Parker, a real head-to-head challenge which leaves Parker seeing stars. Michu is booked and Parker is able to carry on after some treatment.
16:30 GOAL - Swansea 1-2 Tottenham - Michu
As we said, Michu may be the man to keep Swansea's hopes alive, and the Spanish striker this time finds a perfect header, smashing the ball in off the far post from a right-wing corner. Game on.
16:32 HITS THE WOODWORK - Swansea 1-2 Tottenham
Just stop it Gareth Bale. He runs from inside his own half, leaving the Swansea defence for dead, before hitting the ball so early that it catches Michel Vorm off guard. He is once more rooted to the spot but the low shot hits the base of the post and bounces clear.

MANAGER REACTION
Andre Villas-Boas: "It was very important to bounce back after what happened in the last two games. It's a difficult ground to come to but a great win for us, and a great winning mentality from the boys."
"The team was impressive from the start. We reached the 2-0 lead very early and at half-time we spoke about getting the third goal, it didn't happen but I think the boys showed great mentality to hold on.
"It shows how ambitious they are to reach our objectives. I have to compliment everybody for their work rate defensively and offensively."
"When there are so many things that go well for the team it is hard to single out individuals but Gareth Bale is a world class player offensively and defensively, as he showed when he made the block at the end to prevent Swansea getting a draw."

Gareth Bale back from illness

Tottenham and Gareth Bale travel to the Liberty Stadium to take on Swansea as they look to get back to winning ways after three defeats in all competitions.
The Capital One Cup winners will be looking to take advantage of Spurs' late-season slump, although they have lost four of their last six games, including their last two games against West Brom and Arsenal.
Michael Laudrup's side currently sit in ninth position on 40 points and, with a place in Europe already assured, they will look to end their Spurs hoodoo.
The Swans have not beaten the Londoners in any of their last four competitive meetings. The last time they beat them was back in September 1991 in the League Cup.

Wales star Bale has been the man attracting the headlines with his sensational run of 12 goals in 13 appearances for club and country, but Spurs have lost their last two games after a 12-match unbeaten stretch.
But they will be determined to end that sequence in South Wales with Andre Villas-Boas' men chasing UEFA Champions League qualification.
They are currently four points ahead of fifth-placed Arsenal and just a point behind Chelsea in third, although both these teams have a game in hand on Spurs.

Tottenham

Gareth Bale is fit to face the clash despite suffering from illness on international duty.
Winger Aaron Lennon (hamstring and groin) and centre-back Michael Dawson (hamstring) have recovered from their respective injuries and are likely to start.
Defender Younes Kaboul is likely to be match fit in 10-15 days, but fellow knee injury victim Sandro is out for the rest of the season.

Swansea

Chico Flores is set to return to the Swans squad after seven weeks on the sidelines.
The Spaniard has not played since rupturing ankle ligaments against QPR at the start of February, but is close to making a comeback alongside Ashley Williams in defence.
Kemy Agustien (thigh) is unlikely to be involved while Neil Taylor is continuing to make good progress on his return from a broken and dislocated ankle.

The international break might just have come at exactly the right time for Tottenham Hotspur and Andre Villas-Boas. They looked physically and mentally drained as they spluttered to a 1-0 loss against Fulham at White Hart lane last time out.
It was their third defeat in a row and while Emmanuel Adebayor's away goal in Milan means they can still entertain hopes of Europa League success, they cannot afford many more slip-ups if they're to secure a top-four finish.
The international break will have allowed the manager to reassess the situation and bring fresh energy to the run-in. Seven weeks that will make or break their season; seven weeks that could do the same to his reputation in the English game.
He'll have Aaron Lennon back, while Gareth Bale, Jermain Defoe, Clint Dempsey and Gylfi Sigurdsson all scored for their countries in World Cup qualifiers and should return with a spring in their step.
If each and every game from now on will be like a cup final for Tottenham, the opposite might be said of Swansea City.
Having won their actual cup final against Bradford and sitting comfortably in ninth position in the Premier League, their biggest challenge is to avoid coasting. A glance at their recent results suggests the hunger may have waned a little: it's 1 win, 2 goals, and 3 points from their last 4 games.
It's already been a magnificent debut season for Michael Laudrup and he'll be determined not to let it fizzle out. Securing a top-10 finish, their best in over 30 years, must be the target.
With Everton, Manchester City and Chelsea coming next on Tottenham's fixture list, this might appear to be the most appealing of Spurs' upcoming fixtures, but many thought that about the Fulham game - and look what happened there!
When on song, few sides go through the gears as impressively as Swansea so I do hope Villas-Boas enjoyed his break. The pressure is about to be cranked up big time.

Head-to-head

  • Swansea last beat Tottenham in the league in October 1982, a 2-0 victory at Vetch Field.
  • They have only met seven times in the top flight. Spurs have won four, Swansea twice.
  • The south Wales club have never beaten Spurs in the Premier League (three attempts).
  • The highest-scoring match between the clubs was a 7-2 Tottenham win in November 1935.
Swansea
  • Swansea have exactly the same home record as at the same stage last season (P15, W6, D6, L3).
  • They could lose back-to-back Premier League home matches for the first time under Michael Laudrup.
  • The Swans have only scored two goals in the past four Premier League matches, their biggest relative drought of the season so far.
  • Top scorer Michu has only scored in one of his last 10 league appearances (two goals against QPR).
Tottenham
  • Spurs have lost three straight games for the first time since Andre Villas-Boas took over.
  • They have suffered successive Premier League defeats, having previously gone 12 games unbeaten.
  • Against Fulham, they failed to score for only the fourth time in the league this season.
  • Steven Caulker made 26 Premier League appearances on loan at Swansea last season.
  • Gareth Bale has scored 11 away goals in the Premier League this season, a record bettered only by Luis Suarez (12)

Today will be the day of reckoning. If we drop any point, it's good bye to CL next season.

I heard this said when we lost to Wolves the year we got CL and again just before that and just after. It was also said once or twice last year yet we still finished fourth. Wether we eventually finish in fourth or not, i'm pretty sure that it won't be decided today. Regardless of the result.

OK on with today's game i'll get a few predictions in early. Today, the following will be said at some point.

FFS Spurs get it together.
We're never going to score
Fuck off Ade
Fuck off Defoe
Dempsey, you're a ****
At this rate we're going to lose
Parker stop twirling
We're shit

All in the first five minutes ;)

Thanks L.A for posting the clip , I really enjoy seeing Avb he comes across so compose and in control and seems to know what he wants and more importantly how to achive it , I watch this and i think yes we will be ok ,Hes had a week to get his thoughts and mind together and i really feel the results will turn for us . Hes got the players onside and they seem to have brought into the way he wants the game played , and quietly winning over certain parts of the media except of course certain radio presenters but then thats only to get the show going, I think the recent negitivity esp after the Fulham is more concern over Le Arse and chelsky on our backs but are these the same sides as a few years back , Arsenal have big injury issues and are inconsistant and will not see all their remaing games as certs , as chelsea on paper they should be flying but indoor polictics are showing a less then a straight flowing ship .

Well it turned out to be an astute prediction last year (whoever said it). We finished fourth, missing third by one point. Chelsea won the CL, therefore we missed out on CL by one point. You could pinpoint any number of single games that we lost therefore as the 'one that cost us.'

If we lose today and miss out on CL by 3 points or less, today could well have been the day we missed out. (So could the Fulham game, or any other we should have won) Chinaman might still have a point.

Sorry everyone. Even I hate how negative I'm becoming. Our recent slump after what happened last season is ripping any sense of optimism from my soul, although deep down I know its just self preservation, because if we miss out again having been in such a strong position, I'll be absolutely gutted.

It's nothing against the club, manager or the players. We're punching above our weight financially and playing good football, it's just that overwhelming sense of hope and optimism that the CL windfall could take our club to the next level. I want to experience that level of joy when we last reached the holy grail. To have that hope shattered time and time again hurts. A lot.

Lloris has said that we need to treat every game as a final, but we need to see the team act like that.

Nevertheless, once that whistle is blown, I'll be cheering on the mighty Spurs like crazy.

Technically they all cost us.
