It never amazes me to hear fans question Keano. He is by far the hardest working striker that we have (and he is not one to get sent off for a stupid reason!). He has been used to bolster the midfield/striker partnership which has put us where we now are. Defoe can score goals but misses many more than he scores. Pav is a quality player but not appreciated by the EPL type supporter. Crouch is.....Crouch and will never change what he offers us. He has never played for a really good team....Villa, Liverpool, Portsmouth....England. The day we loose Keano is the day that we can stop being a top class team (unless we sign a real striker?) COYS!

Do you go to the games? His work rate off the ball was appauling yesterday. He made two decent runs in the first half. I sit in the park lane so can't judge 2nd half but there was evidently more link up play when Pav came on. Now I would say that would have been partly because of Stoke dropping increasingly deeper, but the main reason would have been Pav's increased work rate. Keane is not cutting it at present and as much as I love the bloke I really don't think he is deserving of a place in the team at present.

On the subject of Taraabt, his team play and final ball looks to have improved greatly this year, so hearing the old argument that he is a one trick pony (pure skill, nothing else) is looking slightly tired and ill-thought. He would provide a different option and one that we don't have at present, and I would like to see him on the bench.

Can all Keano talk go in the Keano thread. There's one around discussing his efectiveness as captain and striker as well as ongoing selection.

Exactly mate, the type of game he would have been affective in, the reason why he would be a great impact sub.

I've liked Adel from the outset and am pleased he's making progress, albeit not with a team of the same standard.

I hope he can come back and make the kind of impact he's capable of for us. He is undoubtedly an exciting and enthusiastic talent and is beginning to mature and develop along the right lines. He is still very young and we have yet to really see the best of him.

There are far less talented players who are selfish with the ball - at least he's capable of doing something with it.

He looks just like Gascoigne in 1991/2 when he scores that goal

Incredible touch, strong upper body weight and quick acceleration

If he could just pass a bit he'd be amazing!

You do realise Gazza missed the entirety of the 91-92 season, don't you?

Gazza missed many seasons...sometimes as manager:eek:mg:

I know, shouldn't laugh at the afflicted:violin:

Back on topic; Adel is out on loan. This is to see how he develops, with a view to bringing him back if he shows he has the potential to become a good first team/squad player. That is the idea with all young players who are out on loan. Let's see if this system works, eh.
The bottom dollar with Adel is that 'Arry clearly didn't feel he was ready just yet. If 'Arry does feel that time has come he will bring him back. Remember, this is 'Arry who saved the season last; 'Arry who has given us the best start in eons. This is the 'Arry who has managed di Canio, for goodness sake - he will not hesitate to put Taraabt in there if he thinks he is good enough, no matter what anyone says.
p.s. Who said Taraabt was offered a new contract but refused - do you have any links?

Speaking of which, I am reading "39 days of Gazza".......it's quite sad really.

Taarabt, who is looking for a return to the top-flight as soon as possible, said: ‘I am from Marseille, the city of Cantona and Zidane.

‘They like to entertain the fans, I try to, too. I have a clause that if a Premier League club wants me, I can leave in January.

‘Spurs wanted me to sign a contract (extension) in the summer but I wanted to go to Spain or Italy. They wouldn’t let me, so I went back to the Championship to show what I can do, and hopefully I’ll be in the Premier League soon.’

This is how I read it: He wanted to go to Spain or Italy; the club preferred to send him out on loan (perhaps indicating that the powers may see him having a future at the club); he has a clause allowing him to go to a Prem. club in Jan (sounds like he means transfer and not loan, but doesn't sepcify); the club wanted him to sign a contract extension (again, indicating that the powers may see him having a future at the club); he doesn't say that Spurs don't have the option of taking him back to the Lane in Jan (though it does sound like he considers his future to lay elsewhere).

I hope he succeeds and at the Lane. Otherwise he may come back to haunt us.
But if 'Arry considers him surplus we really have to believe he knows what he is doing. As I said above, he managed another outrageously talented wild-card in Paolo di Canio, so he won't be fazed by Taraabt, will he:shrug:

There's also this, though:

QPR relieved after Spurs confirm Taarabt loan agreement

QPR have been assured they can keep Adel Taarabt until the end of the season - unless a Premiership club comes in for the on-loan Tottenham forward in January.

The Morocco-born player scored a peach of a goal in Saturday's 4-0 demolition of Preston - and there were fears Spurs would want him back as soon as possible.

But boss Harry Redknapp will only require Taarabt to return if the Premiership club gets offers from another top-flight outfit - that, and a fee of around £3million.

A Rangers source said: "QPR were promised Adel until the end of the season - and it stays that way.

"But if there was another Premiership club wanting him in the transfer window - sadly for Rangers it would suit both Spurs and the player."

But Taarabt made it plain this week he would rather play for Rs if they get into the Premiership.

He said: "If we get promoted then why not? Although I have got three years of my contract left with Tottenham my dream is to play in the Premiership."

Two weeks ago the midfielder vowed to never play for QPR again after fans booed him in the 5-2 win over Barnsley - and he angrily gestured back at them.

He said: "The chairman told me to relax, forget it, and I showed everybody what I can do. And yes, I love nutmegging other players on the pitch. It's my favourite thing to do, and has been since I was very young."

Clearly a resolute type once he has made his mind up, then:grin:

Answers my next question - How long does he have on his contract? Answer: 3 yearsEek

Clearly someone at the club does believe he has a future in the top flight, then, if they are trying to get him to sign an extension on a 3 year contract:shrug:

And the 'move to the Prem. obviously is specific to selling and not loaning.
