Anyone see a small piece in Sunday Times business section today.
Iconiq Capital..who among other things manage Zuckerberg's dough..are weighing up a £1bn bid for Spurs, but Lewis wants £2bn

Silicon Valley fund mulls Spurs offer

A secretive American investment firm backed by Mark Zuckerberg is considering a £1bn bid for Tottenham Hotspur.

Iconiq Capital has held talks with a number of buyout firms about a possible bid for the north London club, which came second in the Premier League last season.

The San Francisco fund manages the wealth of a number of Silicon Valley billionaires, including the founder of Facebook.

The latest broadcast rights deal with Sky and BT has brought an influx of foreign buyers into the league.

The Iranian tycoon Farhad Moshiri took a substantial stake in Everton last year and takeover speculation continues to swirl around Liverpool.

City sources said Iconiq began talks about buying Spurs with the private equity giant Blackstone in 2014, and by 2015 had put together a consortium that included Jeff Moorad, an American former sports agent. Qatalyst Partners advised the group.

They were prepared to pay £882.6m but that was rejected by Joe Lewis, the club’s billionaire owner. He is understood to be holding out for £2bn.

Several other parties have expressed an interest in buying Spurs in recent years, including the US investment company Cain Hoy.

That would be one mighty profit if they get 2 billion for us.

European NFL franchise?

Which it's feasible for a US sports investor to want, although I'm not convinced that a convertible stadium provides that much of a moat against competition. Still odd for a tech VC, however excited you are about gridiron.

And what's to stop them from just buying a team in the US like the 49'ers

I've been supporting Spurs since 1959, but I'll reconsider my position if the club is taken over by any American , oil sheik , or Russian mafia.

You would stop supporting the club after 58 years if an American bought us. Wow.

Newsflash: Our owner fucked off out of Europe for the Carribean and Florida years ago for tax purposes. Our ownership group, Tavistock does all of its business in America(besides Spurs), but is domiciled in the tax haven Bahamas islands, which is only like 50 miles off shore at its closest point. We're as close to an American owned club already as you can get without the owner being American born.

I know lots of people will disagree with me, but I really wish Roman Abramovich had bought us all those years ago. People say we'd have lost our soul, but we already have anyway, so it would be nice to have a load of trophies along the way.
We have not lost our soul and to compare our owners to Abramovic is inaccurate and insulting. If you are that desperate for trophies maybe you should support Chelsea.

Teams around us are spending more and getting more investment. The only way we can truly compete, even with the new stadium, is to have bigger financial clout behind us. Something like this will happen sooner or later.

I sort of agree with you.

I don't like telling people to support another club but I totally get what you mean.

Old ground, but if it really doesn't matter where you get the money from to buy the trophies, what's the point in having any rules at all?

Why not just creep into the FA HQ and steal the Cup and cut out the middle man? I don't want a crook like Abramovich anywhere near our club.
