Everything else slots into place.

Lloris
Walker Dawson Vertonghen Naughton
Sandro Paulinho
Lamela Erikssen Townsend
Soldado
Whoever else is fit goes on the bench with Freidal and Fryers

This will be the team most likely..... AVB can also start Holtby on the left..... retaining Townsend strictly on the right. Holtby and Eriksen exchanging position when in possession. This may work like Oscar and Mata last year. I added Sandro and Paulinho in your squad...LOL

I would prefer not to put Vert as LB.... he is against Bellamy and I fear he will get caught out. Also Siggy will be out pace.... I think Townsend on the left if Vert plays.... else Naughton + Lamela on the left.

Cardiff attacks from the right every time.

When i made this team i didnt put in dembele, kaboul, rose, chadli, lennon, capoue or chiriches due to injuries and work permit.

Lloris
Walker - Daws - verts - naughton
Sandro - paulinho
Lamela - eriksen - townsend
Soldado

-with gylfi on the left we will be to narrow when we dont have a proper left footed attacking lb, so rather we play townsend on the left to offer some widt, he also has a good pass on him.

What i'd like to see:

Lloris;
Walker, Dawson, Kaboul, Vertonghen;
Sandro, Paulinho;
Townsend, Eriksen, Dembele;
Soldado

Or in a 4-4-3:

Lloris;
Walker, Dawson, Kaboul, Vertonghen;
Paulinho, Sandro, Dembele;
Townsend, Soldado, Eriksen

Assuming Dembele is fit enough, I'd like to see him on the left side of the pitch in some capacity, offering protection for whoever plays at LB in place of Rose.

I think Townsend is likely to get the call-up ahead of Lamela, considering he is fresh and the latter played 90 minutes.

Subs: Friedel, Naughton, Kaboul, Holtby, Siggy, Lamela, Defoe.

sigurdsson won't be dropped after making an impact against norwich, that's not how avb rolls. lamela will start on tuesday.

If Rose, Kaboul, Dembele, Capoue, Lennon and Chadli are out. I'd go:-

Lloris

Walker--Dawson--Chiriches--Vertonghen

Sandro--Paulinho

Lamela--Eriksen--Townsend

Soldado

Townsend's probably the one at risk if anyone in the attacking 4. It's such a good problem to have, though. Does AVB pick the more experienced guy who will run at his man and rain shots (accurate or not) on goal? Or will he elect for the more measured player who comes with less experience but a better eye for the pass?

I personally believe Chelsea will be Lamela's first start in the EPL despite the magnitude of the match.

I agree AVB's expectation would be that his first choice attacking 4 would be :

Lamrla Erikssen xxxxxx
Soldado
AVB's dilema right now is that Lamela has not shone in his first match and a bit - does he give him a rest so he comes good later on or does he make him play for half a dozen consecutive matches so as to better get up to speed ?
AVB (last season) made minimal changes to his team. Has he changed ? Or will he re-instate Sigurdssen after his brace against Norwich (although he was average otherwise).
AVB likes a bit of width - Walker as RB with Townsend on the left would be his best options with current injuries.
I don't think Holtby has shown enough yet to become a starter, despite a great assist v Tromso, probably too early for Chadli after his injury, Lennon out injured.
So I think its got to be Erikssen as AM flanked by two from Lamela, Townsend and Sigurdsson - for me AVB will go for Lamela and Townsend, and bringing back Sigursson (and possibly Holtby) into the starting line up against Aston Villa.
But its not an easy call - AVB has not rotated very much last season, so it'll be interesting to see how he uses the squad this season.

Scoring a brace on your last league game doesn't 'warrant it'??!!

Shocking comment. Seriously glad u ain't in charge pal.
Yeah a shocking comment, you clearly watch our games with a lot of attention and know our players.

Agreed, unless Rose/Dembele is OK then this seems the pretty obvious lineup. No way Lamela starts, didn't do enough on Thursday to warrant taking Andros' spot...AVB played it right, if asked why Lamela doesn't start he can say he's still a bit tired from Tromso. I think he'll come on as a sub. Sigurdsson won't be dropped because of his 2 goals, I do feel he plays a lot better with Rose, we'll see how attacking Verts is considering his lack of pace. Wouldn't be against Fryers or Naughton at LB, to be honest, let them play, neither has done anything wrong.

To be honest my initial preference would be to start without Sigurdsson and have Townsend on the left and Lamela on the right just for the fact that I think obviously with Soldado in the middle, that they are our strongest personal for those positions but whether at this current stage that that would be the best setup to go with may cause debate.

Lamela is still to find his feet in the league and even though I think someone of Townsend's pace could without a doubt still have great effect from the left, he's been very good on the right recently. Now I'm not Sigurdsson's greatest fan, but he has goals in him from the left still, as will Townsend start to prove from the right IMO so I wouldn't exactly be displeased to see this setup either and I think it's more of a 'safer' option.

As we progress though Lamela on the right and Townsend on the left is certainly what I would like to end up seeing.
