Was saying this in the Everton match day thread, but its high time we started getting some service to our star forward. Paid a lot of money for him and we aren't playing to his strengths at all which is really perplexing me. He needs service, and in order to provide him with some we need to be more fluid and actually look to create and work openings for him. He has the movement and is making the runs down the sides of the CBs etc.

I'm delighted with our collective resilience under AVB but I would like to see some changes in the attacking area of the pitch now. He has to pick our best creative options in order to get the best out of Soldado - otherwise the signing of him will start to look and feel a tad redundant - and obviously its what's best for the team.

We have the solid base to operate from and this is the side I'd pick:

Lloris

Walker
Kaboul/Dawson (first choice Kaboul but AVB might take the cautious route with him for a while)
Vlad
Vertonghen

Sandro
Dembele

Lamela
Eriksen
Siggy

Soldado

Subs: Friedel, Dawson, Pualinho, Lennon, Holtby, Townsend, Defoe

Think those two in front of back four is a nice balance when you consider the three types in front of them - why I opted for them for this one.

Lamela needs to be given a go here, he's more creative than Townsend in and around the box. Erisken needs a run as well, our best creative option - has to play. I'd go for Siggy from the left, looks our biggest goal threat.

I totally forgot about the Europa League this week.

Apologies for starting a premature thread.

Lamela and Eriksen will be relegated to playing against Sheriff at home. We will start with the exact same line-up as today, except Sigurdsson may start on the left. It's going to take several sustained games where we drop points before AVB starts Lamela and Eriksen together. I'm not sure why, as they surely aren't going to have less end product than what we've seen so far, but I guess that's the risk AVB is willing to take.

if we win on Thursday we are through and probably guaranteed top spot, so hopefully we cant write off the game that involves a trip to the fortress of solitude in the artic circle

Agree with the team above. Think we need both Eriksen and Lamela in there. I think having one of Eriksen or Holtby isn't enough. We need creative players, not just a solitary no.10.

Lennon and Townsend doesn't work. We saw that again today and someone posted the stats on their goals and assists in the match thread to back that up. What's wrong with giving Eriksen and Lamela a chance? They should be in there already imo.

I think Lamela would link up we with Soldado, he seems to like to do quick gice and go's which typically don't work with defoe, may yield nothing but what would be the difference :)

Not wanting to effect Townsend confidence but he has had loads of game time now and not delivered any end product, i am not denying his talent here, he is explosive and i am expecting big things from him, but he has to work on his end product and be a bit smarter around the box with the ball and not shoot.

Siggy is the same but does two things differently in that he does have a key pass in him and he had a knack of getting on the end of moves.

Key thing is this has to be in the league, EL againdt the non descript teams we are playing has no bearing.

When we have inverted wingers, Holtby and Paulinho in the centre of the park it just gets horrendously congested. I wouldn't be entirely against playing Townsend on the left and Lamela on the right, just to give us a bit more width. I know people will claim this will nullify Townsend's threat, but I can't see why he can't cut in on to his right-foot from the left, he has a better than average right-foot. It would also give Lamela a chance with Soldado.

Lloris

Walker - Daws - Chiriches - Verts

Sandro - Dembele

Lamela - Eriksen - Townsend

Soldado

Subs: Friedel, Kaboul, Paulinho, Sig, Lennon, Holtby, Kane.

Obviously we'll have a better idea on Thursday.

If we're going to play this fucking 4-2-3-1 then we need Holtby, Erikson and Lamela starting and Paulinho making runs past them from deep. That or Holtby playing one of the DM roles. Neither of which will happen. So sticking with 4-2-3-1 it would be...

Everyone seems to agree that Lamela should be given a chance now. I'd definitely agree. If we cant create chances with Siggy, Eriksen and Lamela behind Soldado, we'll never be able to

Hucking fell, another early Sunday game. Why not just schedule games at 8 a.m. on a Tuesday morning FFS. :shifty:

Based on nothing much I'd like to see a middle 3 of Kapow, Holtby and Eriksen. Play conventional wingers and tell the FBs to play more conventionally.

We'd have the pressing game back with Kapow, more quick-thinking, forward-looking midfielders on the pitch and finally some width.

Easy this coaching stuff.

I just want Lamela to start in a team where he can go down the wing but also interchange with the No.10. And I want him to keep playing their until he clicks with his team mates because he WILL be class.
