Walker has done a role reversal recently. His decision making in the final third has been very poor, but his defending has been great.

Friedel

Walker Dawson King Assou-Ekotto

Kranjcar Parker Modric Bale

Adebayor Saha

Subs: Cudicini, Defoe, Lennon, Giovani, Rose, Kaboul, Livermore

Very true. I noticed that as well. I actually see it as a positive as I was starting to think the kid couldn't defend for toffee.*

*No idea what that means. No idea if that is the right spelling of 'toffee' either. Is it? Fuck knows? Doesn't anybody know? Only one guy knows, and that's obviously Neil Buchanan. And what does he say?

He says go and read the 'screenplay' for the un-animated last episode of Dungeons & Dragons:

Why? Who knows? Do I look like a fucking Neil Buchananan agent? Erm..no!

Piss long and propser.

That's providing Lennon is out. VDV to be subbed after 60, Saha to partner Adebayor for 20 minutes before Adebayor comes off, we lock the midfield up and bank our 4-2 win. Happy days.

Unlike Glen Johnson who struggled to play with Lennon, Walker actually likes it. In part that has been because Lennon isn't running at the fullback as much and cuts in more which leaves space for Walker to expose. His defending has been looking much more assured though.

Lennon is looking the most likely of our injured players to make it for Saturday BTW!

Which is great news cos out of our injured players, I feel he's the one we need back the most. VdV less so cos Bale or Saha could partner Adebayor.

I also agree vdv is a big loss for us. Missed him last week.

I hope we put this lot in their place. It's been a long time since we spanked someone and the three goals against Wigan seemed like a lot!!

In terms of balance it is Lennon who we are missing the most....apart from Bale he is the only player who seems capable of getting forward quick enough to support Ade. Harrys preference for one up front usually discounts Defoe and this may apply to Saha as well. VDV offers us that mystery element but to me often leaves us seemingly unbalanced.

-----------------Friedel
Walker -----Dawson---King-----Ekotto

-----Kranjcar----Parker----Modric----

Lennon-------------------------Bale

-------------Adebayor---------------

Although I would be tempted to go 4-4-2 and get Saha in to try and hit them early but I have a feeling if they go 4-4-2, we could overun them in midfield with a 5 man and then they would lack service to their front two. All I know is, Saturday is going to be a good day for football:grin:

team news: Van der Vaart and Gallas are out of action, and Kaboul and Sandro are 'struggling'. Probably won't be fit either.

Defoe and Lennon could be back though, they've been training, and it's 'wait and see' with King as usual.

In that case I hope it's this:

We need King to be fit, Newcastle have the best striker in the country by a street and we need someone like King to keep him in check, I fear the worst if Ledley is missing

When did Newcastle sign Van Persie?

I agree that we really need King to be fit for this one. Won't be easy watching Dawson and Nelsen at the back.

Hmmm thought VDV and Kaboul only had minor knocks but obviously not. In light of that team news I would go:

Friedel

Walker
Dawson
King
Ekotto

Kranjcar
Parker
Modric
Bale

Adebayor
Saha

Subs: Cudicini, Nelsen, Rose, Livermore, Lennon, Defoe, +1.
