Got MOTM against Liverpool playing as a CDM

I think for sure that playing teams who are hard to break down at the lane, we should drop dier and play dembele dm and have more attacking players.

Or people who have dembele in one of the three advanced roles and alli deeper as it hasn't been that way for a while now:)
Touché.

Think that's a much less clear cut thing than the explicitly explained by the coach approach of rotating the full backs.

Still think Alli and Dembele are both more effective swapped around.

I'd still rather him play alongside a cdm though, he's better being allowed to go forward.

I honestly don't think it would matter much against Norwich City, we are good enough to beat them regardless of whether Dembele plays deep or further up the pitch.

I think dembele could do a fantastic job deeper or in the 10 role but for me in the short term anyway alli should play further forward as he offers more goals, moments of brilliance and pace running past the striker and he can go missing for periods in games which could be costly playing in the cm 2

Plus I also think dier will definitely play.

All these games were he goes missing are when he plays as the 10. I don't think he has enough to play there. He seems much more affective playing from deeper. The goal and crossbar effort against Palace both came when he was playing deeper.

I don't think the fact that alli goes missing sometimes is down to his position on the pitch I think it's more down to his age and experience TBH

What if we want him to start there and change position after 10 minutes, you know like Pochettino have done?

alli deeper with dembele further forward is better against bus parkers as it gives us five attacking options rather than four.

Problem with that is you are limiting dembele with that team and bearing in mind how important he's been to our side this season, the combination of that and not having a proper cdm in the team I don't think will be too clever.

Well, I disagree. I think Alli is able to do a job at alternating with Dembele and we desperately need Dier to have a rest. The only question for me is who is better ATM, Bentaleb or Alli? I would not pick Carroll for league games ATM in CM, so the only options if Dier is rested are Alli or Bentaleb. So I'd play Alli next to Dembele. You're welcome to your opinion mate, but I trust Alli and Dembele and I'm not there yet with Bentaleb or Carroll I'm afraid.

Also if you pass to dembele higher up the pitch the ball sticks. Alli for all his ability is still prone to losing the ball under pressure whereas you can have 3 men on dembele and he'll still emerge with the ball...

Lloris
Walker Alderweireld Wimmer Rose
Dembele Alli
Son Onomah Chadli
Kane

Vorm, Davies, Carroll, Bentaleb, Lamela, Eriksen, Harrison

Dier gets rested after playing the full 90 vs Colchester. He's played alot already this season and 3 games in 7 days is a bit much. Rest him in this one as we'll need him vs Watford. 7 changes from Colchester.

Vs Watford
Lloris
Trippier Alderweireld Wimmer Davies
Dier Dembele
Lamela Alli Eriksen
Kane

Vorm, Carter-Vickers, Bentaleb, Carroll, Chadli, Onomah, Son

5 changes from Norwich. If we buy Dembele from Fulham, then i might have him on the bench in this one for Onomah.

Chadli has to start in my opinion, he's hitting his stride and you got to keep going to the well when a player is in form. I'd probably swap the full backs around for this one, they get through a lot of running so it's good that we are rotating them and we don't really lose out who ever plays

Lloris

Walker Toby Wimmer Rose

Dier Alli

Chadli Dembele Eriksen

Kane

Subs : Vorm, Trippier, Davies, Carroll, Bentaleb, Lamela, Son

A few of the players who played at Colchester are definitely back up players only. I'm not so sure we can compete on three fronts having to rotate those players in.

I'm talking Bentaleb (erratic) Carroll (need 93 good minutes not 48) Trippier (needs defensive coaching), Vorm of course, Davies and even Lamela is inconsistent.

How are Trippier and Davies back up players when Poch consistently rotates the FBs?
