Surprised to see so many have Dier to start on Thursday. I'd rest him and start him at RB again vs Liverpool. The only players from Sunday's starting XI I wouldn't rest would be Lloris and Vertonghen (as Jan could benefit from another game to shake off the ring rust).

Lloris

Naughton---Veljkovic--Vertonghen---Davies

Dembele---Paulinho

Townsend---Holtby---Kane

Soldado

I suspect Lennon will actually start but unsure who ahead of.

Subs: Lloris, Dier, Winks, Onomah, Mason, Lennon, Adebayor
If Chiriches is going replace with Dier, since Dawson would want to play for Hull

As far Im concerned, we should rest 11 players for Sunday.

Limassol's away record in Europe stands at; Played 12 Won 1 Drawn 1 Lost 10 GS 3 GC 36 GD -33. Their win and draw came against Partizan and Linfield.

That team should beat plus 1882 will be behind the team as well

GK: Friedel
Defense: No clue. We can't rotate everyone. Veljkovic could realistically start but we need someone to partner him.
Midfield: Paulinho and Dembele. They need match minutes badly. Looks pretty vulnerable to the counter, though (Something Limassol appear to do well).
Attacking 3: Lennon, Kane, Townsend. Rotate that attacking 3 completely.
Striker: Soldado. Keep him scoring and happy.

Overall:
----------------- Friedel ------------------
Naughton -- Kaboul --- Veljkovic ---- Davies
------- Paulinho --------- Dembele --------
- Lennon --------- Kane --------- Townsend
-----------------Soldado ------------------

I hate playing Kaboul, by the way.

Maybe that's clouded your view somewhat? He was awful, but then the whole team was and Vertonghen was just as bad at Chelsea. Collectively we just were not at the races last year.

Kaboul has also been amongst our worst players in our 2 PL matches so far. Obviously including the QPR match in which no one looked bad, but Kaboul turned off and almost allowed Phillips to score. A team like Liverpool will capitalize on the mistakes he made against WHU and QPR.

That's the biggest problem I have. I really don't want to see Vertonghen or Dier playing simply because I view Vertonghen as the most valuable defender we have and Dier hasn't had a rest yet. On the other hand, it would really suck to lose Kaboul to injury in a match like this. And, like you said with Fazio, even if he were confirmed and had a training session or two under his belt, I still would think that throwing him out there against Liverpool would be foolish when the following week we play Sunderland which sounds like a much better matchup for him to get his feet wet given they don't have much pace in that side in attack.

I think we are now in a kind of strange spot. I think we need to rest some players for the Liverpool game but we also need to play some players to get up to speed. Plus we don't have a huge lead or anything and we need to progress onto the group stage.

Anyway I'm guessing we will line up with:

GK - Friedel
LB - Davies
CB - Vertonghen
CB - Kaboul
RB - Naughton
CM - Sandro
CM - Paulinho
AM - Holtby
AM - Kane
AM - Townsend
SK - Soldado

Subs
Lloris, Dier, Bentaleb, Dembele, Lennon, Chadli, Lamela

I imagine all 3 subs will be used but will vary depending on the situation. If we need goals then Chadli and Lamela will come on. Otherwise it could be a good way to get Dembele some match fitness and bring Dier on to play at CB and get some more time in that position (and give Vertonghen or Kaboul a bit of a rest for Liverpool game).

Do we use this as a game to help imbed what Poch is doing by playing a strong team to start with and then subbing some key players for the last 30-40 mins, assuming the tie is well won by then? Just a thought that as we are at home a match might be more use than a training session or two as preparation. Last week that last twenty minutes of Lamela seemed to build his confidence so maybe that can happen to more of the team ready to play Liverpool. With three home games in a row there has been no travelling, no overnight stays so players should be pretty sharp.

Verts and Kab need as much time playing together as possible at the moment to develop an understanding. We need an anchorman in midfield and it would be good to rest Capoue, hence Veljkovic there. Lamela needs a run of games to maintain his form - it may be self-defeating to rest him now. I'd also like to see Kane in the 10 role behind an out and out striker.

Daws on the bench to give him the send off he deserves.

Need a strong enough startig 11 to win with some game changers on the bench - we can only use 3 subs so the rest of the bench doesn't matter. If we are winning at HT its an ideal time to try out a couple of our youngsters. If the game is tight, the youngsters will simply have the experience of being with the first team and the experienced players take us through

None of the startig 11 except Lloris (hopefully Fazio can play v Liverpool, if not play Dawson here and rest Kaboul ?)is expected to start v Liverpool and hopefully we do not need to use the experienced ones on the bench.

If Dawson plays he will become cup tied and less attractive to Hull. He won't play.

Awful lineup. Soldado in goal, Brad up front and 3 at the back. Vlad and Vejlkovic as play makers also will not work. 2/10 would not play

Chiriches in training today. I know it doesn't exactly mean much, but hopefully it's a step in the right direction for him. Vertonghen played last week without having any match minutes under his belt, so if he's healthy, maybe Chiriches could start against Limassol.
