I would go with this team, i think Erikson needs a chance, he is a top player and dropping him wouldn't help him.

Janson
Kane

Alli /Eriksen/Wanyama/ Lamela
Dier

Rose -- Vertonghen -- Alderweireld - Walker

Vorm

I will continue to be controversial as it may not work, but as Vorm is in goal and imo Eriksen is not quite with, it I would love to see

Vorm

Toby . Dier . Verts

Walker . Lamela . Wanyama . Alli . Rose

Kane . Janssen
And I continue to dream .........

Apparently Mane and Sakho are back in training and could play next weekend. Sakho I'm not too worried about but I can see Coutinho and Mane causing us problems.

You need to attack the weaknesses of your opponent, Liverpools is their clusterfuck of a defence so playing both Kane and Janssen - both busy bastards- makes perfect sense. These 2 will hassle and unsettle the centre backs, as Lamela will to Moreno

You also need to counter their strength, which is their counter press. I'm not sure both Dier and Wanyama are comfortable enough receiving the ball under pressure, so I'd like to see Winks, or perhaps more realistically Mason starting. We lose physicality in there, but gain the ability to cope with the pressing of their front players

Vorm

Walker Toby Jan Rose

Dier Winks

Lamela Kane Alli

Janssen

Subs: McGhee, Davies, Wimmer, Wanyama, Eriksen, Chadli, Onamah

While I agree with this in theory, I'd be reluctant to give Winks the nod (pun?) in this game.

So what is wrong with Pochettinho's trusted philosophy? it's clearly the most flexible system is it not.... 4231?

It seems a lot of people want us to play anything but 4231.

To be honest in all the times we've played Southampton Mane has never really stood out, only thing he'd really done is dive all over the place. Depends what mood he's in on the day.

We've looked quite stiff in our first 2 matches so I hope it's not one of those matches against Liverpool in which their fast movement and pace troubles us quite a bit.

Klopp is playing quite a strong team against Burton.
Mignolet, Clyne, Lovren, Matip, Milner, Henderson, Can, Lallana, Firmino, Mane, Origi

Mane is back. But its a good news IMO. Now, I hope, Burton really give them a good game. A reasonably tired Liverpool only helps

Im pissed we dont have a league cup fixture this round solely because Dembele would have been back for Saturday if we did.

Glad he's gone balls out, lets hope for some injuries, and a tough game.

I don't know, maybe the fact that every time we've visibly and tangibly diverted from it, we've looked even better? We've done overall good in that shite formation, yes. But our worst have been in that formation, and our best have been frequently after noticeable changes.
