Redknapp on Adebayor's hamstring: "He has got a grade 1 tear, if he makes a real mess of it he could be out for 6 or 7 weeks."

He hasn't got a grade one tear otherwise he would be out all together, as it is he's doubtful.

This quote is more clear:

The manager said: "It's touch and go. It is a risk, a dangerous one, if he tears it badly [then] he's got a grade one tear and he could be out for six weeks. So we'll give him a couple of days. If he's a doubt I wouldn't want to chance him."

Not ideal on the injury front but that being said we do have a favourable run of fixtures and this is probably one of the hardest we will have between now and just before Christmas (Chelsea 22/12) so I'd still be leaning towards starting them even if it means perhaps making subs later on.

Amazing how everybody wants this superfandango 4-3-2-1 which is undoubtedly our best team when nobody's even seen it in action!

It may have escaped everybody's attention but we've just won 4 straight Prem matches playing 442 or a slightly different combo at Wigan which was arguably our weakest performance out of the 4.

The 4-3-2-1 might well emerge as our best option especially away from home but for people to be saying it's undoubtedly our best is a bit mad because they have nothing to base it on.

he's been on the bench a few times in the league for us this season and got a few minutes here and there, he was involved in the 4th goal against liverpool after he chased down a liverpool midfielder and robbed the ball from him, also played well against shamrock rovers. he can only get his head down, train well and play well in the europa. you should look to support the players rather than definitively writing them off, i'm sure harry is encouraging him and hopefully gio can build up the minutes and help the team.

Idk about who should play but I would like Gio to get a chance in the game from the start.

Lennon does not deserve to be starting atm, his performance have been shameful and a shadow of a player of two years ago pre groin injury

Even SWP has been better than lennon this season

How much has Lennon played this season? I recall that the entire team had a slow start...

Either Harry's getting it wrong or he's been misquoted.

A grade 1 tear is usually a 2 week lay off, possibly 3 max - it's a slight niggle where you feel a little pull but are able to carry on.

Grade 1's can become grade 2's quite easily if pushed too soon before proper healing has taken place and a small tear becomes a bigger one, a proper ping of the hamstring and you're talking 4 - 6 weeks normally.

Grade 3's are severe and not very common - they usually require surgery and a prolonged lay off.

I think it will be touch and go for Ade and the likelihood is that he won't play - hope I'm wrong - but he'll either start or nothing...pointless being on the bench I think with that type of injury if it's not healed...

I have only seen about an hour of the Wigan game, what I saw and looking at the stats, that was one of the best performances, not one of the weakest. When was the last time we had 64% away from home, limited the home team to 4 shots, If I remember rightly we had every player forward of the defence seeing more ball than usual - VDV 65, 1 goal, Adebayor 33, Modric 64, Bale 50 (a record for Bale), Parker 85, Sandro 56.

Wigan got gifted a goal and had a little huf for ten minutes but we soon regained control and those stats are exceptional, let alone for an away game.

I watched us churn out week after week of 442 last year, and the majority of it was either tepid (away) or predictable.

It might be early days for 4231 and who knows what it will bring, but we've all seen enough of 442 to know it's not necessarily the best for this group of players every week.

If there is any risk, I'd rather not play Adebayor. He's too important now. I'd play Kranjcar up there with VDV.

I would have to agree that most, myself included, have not seen enough of it to say it is the strongest formation we could play. Yet, I feel that if we play our best eleven players, then it would involve the 4231 formation. Sandro and Parker give us a great shield and allow Walker and Benny a chance to run and attack a little more. I have been saying it is what I would prefer, but that is strictly based on playing our strongest 11. I think that is what others are saying to even though the implementation of it has been absent.

Lennon deserves to be playing about as much as Pav does right now. I would rather we gave Kranjcar or even Dos Santos the place on the right if injuries force us to.

Bit unfair on Lennon. He hasnt played at all and so doesnt warrant being rated alongside PAv - arguably our worst player all season - Giovani included.

Newcastle are full of confidence, but we shouldnt give them too much respect. They'll fancyit. Let them come on to us and utilise Azza'a pace to hit them on the break. Bang Bang Bang. 3 quick counter attacking goals and game over after 30 mins.

Can't believe how quickly some turn on players....azza has been a little off form, but is still quality and will come good again.

After a thread with a million posts with 90% of respondents pledging undying love for 4 2 3 1, reality comes back to bite......a coaches selections are always / often determined by the vagaries of fitness or risk of making injuries worse. There seems little point in rushing back Ade when he is a risk. No problem owever letting VDV play, he is obviously an expert at self diagnosis and heeling. He would probably go into one if it was suggested that he was unfit to play for an hour against Newcastle.

Im still professing my love for 4-2-3-1. Despite Newcastle in my eyes anyway, being a bit shite still and being in an incredibly false position, their strongest point is their centre midfield. Sandro and Parker as the 2, bale, luka and rafa (Lennon if out as he ripped them a new arsehole twice last year) and adebayor up front or Defoe is he's out too.

As Greg wallace would say "I like the buttery biscuit pace"
