Don't like playing Bale as a winger but we are pretty short of options.

Walker Bassong Kaboul Bale

Bentley Livermore Gudjohnson Modric

Pav Crouch

Redknapp will go with the above, the only variation maybe Ekotto in at left back, moving bale to left mid and moving Modric inside.

Walker was a hit, im sure he will give Livermore the chance tomorrow but i dont think he can resist starting Crouch for this one.

I must say, Harry has played silly buggers with the injured players shaping the line up all season. Methinks we will see at least 2 of the players who are "definitely" out in the starting 11.

However, if it's true, here we go:

--------------------gomes

walker----kaboul  --bassong---BAE

bentley----modric--------EG---------bale

----------defoe--------crouch

Bale will need to tuck inside a lot when Spurs don't have the ball. They need to run loads of wing play when they do have the ball. No steel available in the CM -- this is the first game I'm saying Spurs might like O'Hara back...:violin:

I think THudd will make a miraculous recovery by kick off

COYS!!!

Mate if it was up to me Modric wouldnt be in the starting eleven! But we have no choice we have to many injuries!

Wasn't palacios only 'likely' to miss the game? He is the only one I can see making a recovery if Harry makes it clear he is desperate.

Did someone really say that Modric is "overrated"?!??!?! I can't believe it.

Why can't you believe it?

He is slightly overrated!

Mods is a good player. Very tidy with the ball etc etc. But defo not world class as some seem to think.

When he can score 12-15 goals per season along with 12-15 assists, then we can argue if he's world class. But can you honestly see him scoring or assisting more then Lamps or Fabregas? Gerrard has had a shocking season but still scored more goals.

I must say, while I love Modric and put him in our side every single time, I do reckon that our fans overrate him a little. For the type of player he is meant to be, he still doesn't take control of a game and leave me thinking 'that was a performance' anywhere near often enough. He's very good, and he's still got improvement in him, but right now I think our fans think he's more than he is.

It's natural though, because he is one of our best players and fans will always believe that their best players are as good as the best players are other clubs. However, to my mind we have a fair few players who I'd be sadder to see replaced.

I think I share an opinion with many Spurs fans that he is not yet quite World Class, but eh is potentially so. And, as he is still relatively young, improving, and not getting the chance to settle in what is clearly seems to be his best position in the Prem. (left-midfield), I would counter any claim that he is overrated with a charge that you are judging him massively harshly to reach any conclusion other than the general concensus.

p.s. You do yourself no favours with this obsession with 'stats' - only goals and 'assists' count. They ae helpful indicaters, but nothing more. As was demonstrated by Gudjohnsen's step-over for Kranks goal from BAEs pass - it is not even easy to decide who should get an assist, let alone the many instances we see when the most profound touch, leading to the most profound move, leading to a goal is frequently neither the last or the second last person to touch the ball. Modric knits play together, keeps the ball moving and finds players in a way that few players in the world can. The fact that many assess him as a work in progress, who is very, very good, and getting better, is not overestimating him. I agree with BBLG - sometimes he could take hold of games more - but he's hardly the first player of his calibre to face this accusation at his age, is he:shrug:

He's not really the type that scores 12-15 goals per season to be honest, look at Iniesta and Xavi, they don't score that often but I think are in a similarish mould to Modders.

As for his assists, he managed a good 9/10 last season in his first season in English football, with at first a team in a mess and with Darren Bents terrible movement to put up with.

This season he's been out for a good while and has still managed 6 assists, double the Hudds for instance so again that's very good.

I think he is our world class player to be honest, but I do have a very strong pair of rose tinted glasses.

I agree with SS18 on this one.

While I agree 'world class' might be taking it too far in terms of where Modric is right now (although the term is subjective anyway) players like Iniesta (17 goals in 208 for Barca) don't necessarily weigh in with many goals, but their all round game is what they offer to a team.

Potentially we have a player who we could build a team/midfield around, if we could get more out of him like the goal he scored against Everton. That was out of the top drawer, for me I haven't seen a much better passing team move this season. More of that, and we're going in the right direction!

BBLG is right. Especially in games like today, against Sunderland for example, he really needs to take it by the scruff of the neck and OWN it and put his stamp on it. That's what he needs to do to take himself to the next level.
