I would choose Bentancur over Hojbjerg too but I’m not convinced he’s sharp enough to start yet.

If you want no Dier and no Davies then it would have to be Emerson and Phillips at CB . I actually thought Davies was fine today.

this is a team that I feel has the potential to replicate our best first 11 and the style of play. I have included bentancur at cb to try to give us the speed, physicality and skill at the back. Think he’d do a better job than dier and has more recovery pace for a high line. From his performances last year I feel he’s capable but not sure he’s ready.
Glc is a straight swap for Maddison and in this formation must play AM. Not saying I’m convinced by him yet but feel we must give him licence to create, surely his best attributes.
I'm not super confident with Davies but think he’d fair better with bentancur, Udogie and biss to support. Plus not sure there is anyone else I’d trust right now and seems he played ok Saturday (I’ve only seen motd highlights I couldn’t bear to watch the full length recording after I saw the score)

I think the things that made us so good this season were being aggressive, brave, quick and energetic.

Sadly, our main back ups Dier, Davies and Hojbjerg lack these qualities. Individually they can all do a job but once multiple changes are made, they revert to type and drag the rest of the team down.

For that reason, I think we need to go for the team that can best replicate our first choice XI.

Phillips and Davies in for Romero and Van de Ven.
Bentancur for Bissouma
Lo Celso for Maddison

Definitely a drop off in quality but the system and style of play could stay the same.

Yeh, I think that's about right. The usual way of these things is a few 10 minutes cameos, followed by a couple of 30 minute run outs, then a 60 minute start. He's come through a few 30 minuters now, and none of them were us just winding down the clock - they all had something riding on them. I think he'll start.

He has to start Phillips at CB. Absolutely nothing to lose here, we are literally missing 4/6 most important players.

Chuck the kids in, they have 2 weeks to train with the 1st team, they have been playing this way in the u21’s

Please don’t fall for what every other manager has done Ange and think these squad players are anywhere near good enough to play modern premier league football
