Team vs Anzhi

I'd play the entire under 21 team. It would be good competition for them and a good measure for us to see how well they have come on from last year's excellent season. Definitely don't want to see any player that will feature on Sunday against the bin dippers

Dear AVB. Please can you start 11 players I've never heard of before on Thursday. Thanking you kindly.

That would just be just so rude to those 1st team players not getting into XI at PL that it would be unbelievable. In their shoes I'd pick up a phone, call agent and tell him to find a new club as soon as possible and make a deal happen in january.

True. So I'd definitely pick Sigurdsson, Fryers, Naughton, Townsend, Kane (if fit), Adebayor (if fit), Friedel. And maybe give some minutes (45) to Lamela and Soldado. That's 6-7 players and then we add likes of Veljkovic, Bentaleb, Steward and so on.

People might not agree but AVB should pick a decent team and continue to take the competition seriously. ..its an excellent way to educate and build our mental strength. Going forward as a team we must be interchangeable and use the squad keep the players involved.

Friedel
Naughton
Capoue
Fryers
Townsend
Sandro
Holtby
Lamela
Sigurdsson
Chadli
Soldado

Brad Friedel
Kyle Naughton-Kevin Stewart-Milos Veljkovic-Ezekiel Fryers
Sandro-Nabil Bentaleb
Erik Lamela-Gylfi Siggurdson-Gareth Bale
Roberto Soldado

Bench: Gomes, Holtby, Kane, Coulthrist, Capuoe, Dawson, Townsend

*In risk of people telling me we dont have Bale anymore, I point you to "Professionals" under the team tab on the official site. He is a midfielder. Our own litte cloning project, so to speak.

Pretty sure that neither Milos Veljkovic or Nabil Bentelab have spent the necessary 2 years at Spurs after signing their contracts to qualify as a List B under 21 so they would need to have been registered on List A - and they were not. So they will not be eligible to play in Europa League this side of Christmas

Gah! All these freaking squad rules make my ADHD relapse. Why the hell are they so damn complicated?

I could have sworn I read somewhere that Bentelab travelled with the squad to Tromso or AVB specifically mentioned him as someone who would get minutes

But then again I'd trust you more SpursIdol, you know the youth team inside and out ;)

But wasn't on the bench. No reason for AVB not to give him the experience of travelling with the squad, even if he is not eligible to play

Bit worrying how many first team defenders are injuted at the moment. If AVB is going to use youngsters - this is cerrtainly the time he should.

These are the candidates :

Right Back :
Ryan Fredericks - Played 3 or 4 matches in one of HR's UEFA Cup campaign. Only just 21, is a speedy RB with decent cross.

Centre Backs :
Kevin Stewart - Versatile defender, possibly best as CB but also plays LB as Spurs are short tthere. Spent last month of last season on loan at Crewe playing 4 games. just 20
Zeki Fryers - Can play CB or LB. Likely to play, but in which position

Left Back :
See CB's

There are other defenders in the Professionals, but not good enough IMO, whilst Connor Ogilvie in the Academy (CB/LB) at 17 is surely too young ?

So we could get away with playing one first team CB (one of Kaboul, Dwson, Chirches, Vertonghen and Capoue) probably pairing Fryers with Fredericks and Stewart as RB and LB respectively (I'd wrap Naughton in cotton wool as he may be needed to start against Liverpool - as will Walker).

The other possible candidates to start or be on the bench would be Kenneth McEvoy (AM) and Shaq Coulthirst (striker) plus Harry Kane if he's back from injury .

Was there not a rumour that the club had discovered Milos is eligible after all, but had done so too late to register him for the Tromso game?

Right. So then.
Friedel
Fredricks Kaboul* Stewart Fryers
Sandro Dombaxe
Lamela Siggurdson Bale
Soldado

Bench
Archer, Kane, Coulthrist, Rose, Townsend, Capuoe, Lennon

Provided Rose is fit, give him a 20-25 minute run out so he isnt thrown right into the wolves immediately back from injury.

I have come to the conclusion that Archer is now 3rd choice keeper again. He has been named on the team sheet more than Gomes, if I am not mistaken. I doubt that would be the case if Gomes was still 3rd choice.

*If Kaboul cannot go, then Capuoe starts at CB, Dawson to bench

Didn't hear that one. But it would be great if true.

Think I saw last season that Milos' player profile showed a signing, date which would mean that he is eligible from 1 January 2014, but unforunately that is no longer on line for me to check.

http://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/milos-veljkovic/profil/spieler_202228.html This site (not always accurate but...) says he signed a contract 1 July 2012 which means he could not be eligiblke this season.

Its worth saying that Mios Veljkovic first appeared for Spurs in 2011 in a youth tiournament - possibly whilst still contracted to FC Basle and played for Spurs in their first NextGen campaign (starting August 2011) when he was 15 (and indeed played for Spurs against Basle in NsxtGen), but at aged 15 not sure what his status was - which may mean that Spurs couldn't sign him until he was older (which would make a 2012 signing date believable). Bit of a mystery overall ! .

Additionally here is the Retained Player list at end of 2011/12 - http://www.premierleague.com/conten...ations/other/premier-league-retained-list.pdf Milos is not on it, so I can only assume he had not signed a contract of some sort with Spurs at that stage - although its kust possible that his age means he did not need to be published on this list !
