I'm over seeing Mason & Bentaleb together. Not to discredit any one of them individually, and not to negate their long term prospects as a duo. For the rest of this season though, there must be some other way. I'm also so freaking over Mason's long shots. I'd replace him with (hmmm...) maybe Stambouli? I'd also like to see Fazio back in the team (not that Dier has done anything wrong).
Mason's energy makes us tick. When he doesn't play we are too slow.

When he does play we are too wasteful. I'm happy that he has fought his way into the team (this season in general), but he is so bang average if you actually break it down. That's why his position is the best for looking at the team with a new approach. We need somebody else in the team to partner with Bentaleb for at least a short spell. I'm not particularly proud of the options we've got, but those are what we have and now it's a good time to hand somebody else a shot at PL football.

It's amazing how some fans can get it so spectacularly wrong.
If that's a lame indirect at me, I will point out, with no trace of modesty, that I do get more right than wrong about these things. I was the first fan to not be amazed by Townsend (under AVB, now his fan club contains only his mother), I accurately suggested that signing Davies would only mean that Rose secured his spot as first choice and I said that signing Pochettino meant that we should rid of Adebayor. Of course I've also been wrong ( I did in Sept. say that Soldado would inevitably get a run in the team this season. I failed to estimate Kane's success), but I clearly do get a lot right.
We have a weak CM pairing, whose main purpose lies in the future but who now are rookies learning the trade together. And I want to mix that up for a short while.

Quite literally. I didn't see anybody suggest anything before my self, and I took a lot of stick for it at the time. In fact, I remember several "are you fucking blind?". I warned against the threat of Fiorentina (all though I certainly was not alone) and I said consistently that Lloris would start the final and that the whole debate was void.
So there you are.

I'm really pleased for you, but you're wrong about Mason and Bentaleb.

We don't really need to go on about this. You disagree with me, that's fine, I don't care. But your disagreement is hardly any proof about me being wrong. I'm certainly not of the belief that you get things wrong, simply because you think differently from me. I don't particularly like apples (save pink lady), that doesn't mean that everybody else should stop liking them too.

You're putting down Kane's extraordinary rise to prominence as one that got away eh?

Jesus any member on this forum could randomly select a few things that they've got right over the years.

And the first fan to not be amazed by Townsend under AVB? lol. How do you quantify that exactly?

Yes, you are right. Any member is spot on several times. I couldn't agree more. But we must separate between "agree", "disagree", "correct" and "incorrect".
There are a few other things that didn't quite go as planned. I was absolutely convinced we would sign FdB. And I did really stick with Paulinho for too long. We all do that, we except certain players from criticism that we direct in loads to other players. Right now, Bentaleb & Mason are such exceptions for the majority of this forums. I simply don't agree with the two of them having shown enough to warrant that level of confidence we put in them. Just as Bentaleb has had periods in which he should be rested, Mason has such a period right now. Don't get me wrong, I'm only talking about right now. I fully believe in them long term.

Well, I think they're more than good enough to persevere with to allow them to keep developing. It will be to our benefit for the long term. To take them out of the side now could see their progression stagnate somewhat.

Pochettino has a style and these two get it, so if Poch is prepared to keep playing them I'm prepared to back his judgement - and they look good to me, albeit they're still on a steep learning curve.

only reason i'd start stambouli tonight is that mason's high energy game seems to take a lot out of him, i'd give him a breather tonight and bring him back in against qpr.

Well, that's a vital point, though. Nobody learns new skills in one exact pace evenly and steadily. You'll have a period of fast learning, then a period of slow learning, then a period of no learning and set backs. The trick with young players (and I'll brand Mason as young partially due to his inexperience before this season) is to let them go through these faces on and off the pitch. A young player, I believe, shouldn't only be on the pitch all the time at any cost.

I get the impression that Mason is not ready to start two games in a week at this stage - whenever he's done so there's also been a noticeable drop-off in performance in the second game.

And that's why those call are left to a manager.

We had the same problem with Bentaleb last season. TS overused him and you could tell he was burning out.

I think the bigger problem was the complete lack of tactics. I don't think our players are in any danger of burning out right now.
