That's a big part of it for me. Fans seem to forget exactly how much work Barkley would take to be able to slot in. He wouldn't be a perfect fit from day 1, specifically defensively and when pressing.
I've watched a lot of him recently and his playmaking is not bad at all. Consistently quite good. However his finishing is woeful. He's marginally better than Winks as a player.

Not what I'm talking about. He has been injured now for the entire season. I'm just asking for half a reason, preferable a good one, for why we after all these months still can be going on and on and on and on and on about Ross Fucking Barkley. That's all.

The reason is really very simple - money. Here is a reasonably young (just turned 24), English international (22 caps) who (allegedly) wants to play under Poch and who, because of his contract situation, is available at a cut price fee (£10m ?). Either Poch can get Barkley to fulfil his potential, in which case we have ourselves a £50m+ player, or he turns out to be another Sissoko, in which case we sell him for £25m+.

My concern is that Levy will prefer to wait until summer to try and pick him up on a free. If the stories are true that Barkley is keen to make the World Cup squad, it is likely that he will either go elsewhere this window (Chelsea?) or sign a new contract with Everton.

I agree IF it’s only 10 m it’s worth the risk, and if fit another squad player. I think my real question is if we do buy him would he be fit enough to play, if not with Wanyama and Lamela and hopefully Toby all back in the new year. Will he play. We would effectively have Dier Wanyama Winks Dembele Lamela Son Eriksen and Alli in various MF positions. The person or persons we are missing are a wide speed or midfield quarterback. Eriksen not consistent enough and Lamela son or Alli do t cut it. And I don’t think Barkley would either. But again if it is 10m and wages are right, why not.
