Well, I don't think it's a catastrophe selling/loaning Keane as we have many players that can play in the hole or as a second striker; Modric, Gudjohnson and Kranjcar. Then we obviously have Pav. I think there options at Harry's disposal, for it to not be a problem.
He can score goals that none of our other strikers can.
Keane going will also hopefully mean that Pav gets more game time. He can score goals that none of our other strikers can.
Cup goals?
It's certainly not League goals.

It is, the team plays much much better and is more creative with Keane.
I've always liked Keano and we should never forget his contribution to the club! But, he doesn't play in the hole, it is a myth! He is at his best plaing n the shoulder with an intelligent striker to play off (Berbs)! Gudjohnsen plays that role and always has and is considerably better at it.

defoe - the lone striker - nooooooooooooooo
only one of our strikers has a chance of doing that job - that's Crouch and I don't rate him doing that either
we did have one called darren bent - but decided to sell him

The only thing Pav can do that our other strikers can't is speak Russian.
He appears to have become a great striker overnight seeing as he managed a goal against a League 1 side.
All this supposed bollocks about scoring goals our other strikers can't is proved by..........hmmm, tough one.
It'll still be Crouch and Defoe up top.
Have you watched Keane since he has come back from Liverpool? He is playing in the hole(there might not be 2 strikers in front of him but he is still way too deep to be a traditonal stiker), he tracks back well into midfield to pick up the ball and only rarely since coming back has he played off the shoulder of any defender, (badly I might add, as he was always offsides, reminds me of Defoe before going to Pompey)
Keane also seems like he would rather be provider than scorer these days so you might be right that Keane shouldn't be played in the hole or shouldn't drop too deep like he has been doing but that is what he has been doing for what seems like a year and a half so maybe the loan move to Celtic will get him to start looking to score instead of just provide like he has been wanting to do as of late.
