Keane hasn't actually been in the team...

Corluka - Daws - King - Bale
Lennon - Wilson - Hudd - Modric
Defoe - Crouch

That's our team without Keane.

I assume Gudjohnsen will replace Keane in his role as 70th minute sub then

Well, I don't think it's a catastrophe selling/loaning Keane as we have many players that can play in the hole or as a second striker; Modric, Gudjohnson and Kranjcar. Then we obviously have Pav. I think there options at Harry's disposal, for it to not be a problem.

I've always liked Keano and we should never forget his contribution to the club! But, he doesn't play in the hole, it is a myth! He is at his best plaing n the shoulder with an intelligent striker to play off (Berbs)! Gudjohnsen plays that role and always has and is considerably better at it.

Keane going will also hopefully mean that Pav gets more game time. He can score goals that none of our other strikers can.

Be surprised if that was the case. I would imagine it will mean we're stuck with Defoe and Crouch for 90 minutes rather than 70-80 minutes.

Oh wait, that's right... Keane doesn't actually play most of the time.

It is, the team plays much much better and is more creative with Keane.

defoe - the lone striker - nooooooooooooooo

only one of our strikers has a chance of doing that job - that's Crouch and I don't rate him doing that either

we did have one called darren bent - but decided to sell him

Have you watched Keane since he has come back from Liverpool? He is playing in the hole(there might not be 2 strikers in front of him but he is still way too deep to be a traditonal stiker), he tracks back well into midfield to pick up the ball and only rarely since coming back has he played off the shoulder of any defender, (badly I might add, as he was always offsides, reminds me of Defoe before going to Pompey)

Keane also seems like he would rather be provider than scorer these days so you might be right that Keane shouldn't be played in the hole or shouldn't drop too deep like he has been doing but that is what he has been doing for what seems like a year and a half so maybe the loan move to Celtic will get him to start looking to score instead of just provide like he has been wanting to do as of late.

Total agreement here DC Boy. Crouch could do it ok I guess but Defoe can't and we shouldn't expect him to do that. I don't know why we would want to play with one up top since we have 4 strikers if you count Eidur as one.

Cup goals?

It's certainly not League goals.

The only thing Pav can do that our other strikers can't is speak Russian.

He appears to have become a great striker overnight seeing as he managed a goal against a League 1 side.

All this supposed bollocks about scoring goals our other strikers can't is proved by..........hmmm, tough one.

It'll still be Crouch and Defoe up top.

And quite rightly too. Can't remember if I'm on your 'list' or not DC but remind me how Sunderland are doing now they have worked out Bent can't play up front with anyone else?

Who knows what madness 'Arry has been plotting in his mad and twitchy mindEek Perhaps he has been working on Pav. on the training ground (via Internationally recognised gestures), and Pav. is now ready to be unleashed upon an unsuspecting and soo to be humbled Prem.

Has to say, if Pav. goes, or remains peripheral, I would see the forward line as a bit light-weight, even with the addition of Guddy - unless 'Arry is gonna draft in one of the younglings:shrug:

I'm not sad to see Keane go to Celtic, if it's completed. I'm sad we haven't sold him though as a loan merely prolongs the inevitable.

But at least we haven't loaned him to one of our competitors for the Euro spots.

So sad, too bad, bye bye!

Great a player as Keane has been for us over the years he's been only half as good since he came back. He was the right kind of character to get in to keep us from getting relegated when we needed to scrap but I really hope Dawson gets the long-term captaincy and also I think Gudjohnson is a better player than Keane anyway so no real loss, infact I think Pav is better too,so yer good deal, really wouldn't mind if we sold him permenantly, this is a player who in his first stint at the Lane was my favourite player for years but is just not the same Keaneo anymore.

I always felt when he played with Berba he was the further forward of the pair, benefiting from the skillful flicks and tricks.

I kinda hoped he'd develop into a Teddy type player with age but it aint gonna happen
